New User experience
Quote from Seoirse on 21.07.2026, 21:12This is my first experience of using Scenic. I had watched the tutorial first, but did not necessary absorbed everything!
I entered a start point and an end point, and the system chose the shortest route.
I then entered waypoints to change the route because I wanted the route to be closer to the shore, and then I started to ride.
As I travelled, I deviated from the planned route many times so I could hug the shore. I expected that the system would record my actual route.
When I got to my destination, the initial 'end point', I clicked a button to edit the route, and I entered a location close to home, in other words, close to the start. I expected it to calculate the shortest or fastest route home, but in fact, it tried to take me back the way I had originally planned to go to the original ‘end’.
I ignored the route home that it presented because I knew the way home, but it was constantly displaying the wrong time to get home. At first, I was concerned that I had miscalculated until I realised what it was doing.
If I now look at yesterday’s ride in ‘My Favourites’, it is not the actual route I travelled. I expected to see the actual route and be able to adjust it and save it as a route.
While I was driving, I wanted to take pictures from some locations and write notes for future reference, but I couldn't see how to do that.
I will try again. I want to be able to plan a route that explores rural roads from A to B. I will deviate from that route... I will go 'off piste' to explore possibly more interesting places as I go, and I want to take notes and photos in the app as I go along, so I can write up a detailed guide.

Quote from Middelfrangge on 21.07.2026, 22:17Hi,
what kind of routing mode did you use? Where die you save the track after you finished your ride? For taking pictures, there is a Foto symbol, pretty simple. I do not think you can add notes.
BTW, do you use Android or Apple?

When I got to my destination, the initial 'end point', I clicked a button to edit the route, and I entered a location close to home, in other words, close to the start. I expected it to calculate the shortest or fastest route home, but in fact, it tried to take me back the way I had originally planned to go to the original ‘end’.

I think what happened here is that you did not reach one ore more of the original waypoint that you placed (because you went of route a few times). When that happens, at the default detour behaviour settings, Scenic tries to relentlessly send you back to that missed waypoint. So, even though you added a new end point, it was still trying to send you to the first unreached waypoint. Here's more info on this and how you can change this behaviour: https://scenic.app/help/detour-behaviour-scenic/
If I now look at yesterday’s ride in ‘My Favourites’, it is not the actual route I travelled. I expected to see the actual route and be able to adjust it and save it as a route.
Important to understand the difference between routes and rides. A route is what you plan. A ride is the record of your journey. The breadcrumb / log if you will. The route as you planned it (under 'My Routes') won't change. It the route as you saved it. The ride as you rode it can be found under 'My Recorded Rides'. To turn that into a route, select the ride in question > tap the 3 dots button top right > 'Route from Ride'
While I was driving, I wanted to take pictures from some locations and write notes for future reference, but I couldn't see how to do that.
During navigation, if you tap the grid button, the 'big button' grid menu appears. In there you'll find a photo button. You can also choose to place a photo button directly on the map through Settings > Navigation & Tracking > Show Quick Pic button.
Hope this helps/explains. If not, please let me know if you have other questions. Happy to help.
Best regards and ride safe,
Guido
