Still hitting unwanted unpaved roads and unexpected road closures.
Quote from DrChris on 24.09.2026, 16:41I have been using Scenic for 4 years now and am overall very happy with it, and I know during that time you have had to massively redo parts of the service due to a change in mapping service. We are just finishing a road trip through upper peninsula and down the western coast of Michigan.
We had two instances of routing onto dirt roads and two of routing through road closures, even when the routing instructions were to avoid these. Additionally, when I went back to look at the mapping, there was inconsistent designation, sometimes depending on zoom level, other times couldn’t get the road closures to show at all. Please see some of the images below. I seem to think there was a version of scenic that would warn if you tried to purposely route against your “avoid” specifications.
Please note unpaved road markings appearing and disappearing at different zoom levels

Also, see below routing over a road closure

I may be using the program wrong, but this was pretty disruptive to our routing.
I hope you are feeling better soon!!
Thanks,
Chris.

Quote from Guido on 28.09.2026, 15:23Road closures are not yet taken into account with the route calculation. This will be added soon. More info on that here: https://scenic.app/help/closures-and-incidents/
For the unpaved road... would you mind sending me a coordinate of an unpaved road that you were routed over? (Long press map and choose 'copy cooorinates' in the callout bubble).
And a screenshot of your routing settings?

Quote from DrChris on 28.09.2026, 18:56Thank you for your quick reply.
The coordinates of one of the roads I detected are: 46.676663,-85.783719 or 46°40'35"N 85°47'1"W.
Here are the routing settings I currently have, although I sometimes will add "avoid highways" and set for curvy or beauty depending on the drive.
I hope you have a speedy recovery from your injury and keep up the good work on the app!!

Quote from DrChris on 28.09.2026, 19:00Also, I think that one contributing factor may be that I put vias on the unpaved portion of the road, however I seem to remember that when I tried to force a route on an unwanted road last year, I was warned that the route contained an "unpaved road" (for example.)

Bien vu !

Quote from Guido on 29.09.2026, 08:23That was indeed added in the latest version 4.45 on ios.
if you place a via point on an unpaved section Scenic cant avoid it as it will try to make you reach every waypoint. This takes priority over the routing mode.

Quote from DrChris on 29.09.2026, 08:30Yes, I understand that. These routes were planned months ago, so probably before that update. This and when rerouting to avoid road closures is eventually incorporated will be very helpful. The only issue remaining may be the road type disappearing with different zoom levels.
