Routing Off Major Roads/Interstates
Quote from visiongrill on 03.07.2026, 07:55Hello Guido,
This is a problem that I have only recently seen but it is causing some other issues like many recalculations causing via points to be skipped.
On a major interstate or divided highway in the US, Scenic is routing me to take an exit, only to return back to the interstate. There are no vias or any other reason for the routing. I did an IBA ride last Saturday and missed a via point which nearly caused me to not have enough miles in the ride. I think it was because I was ignoring these random exits and once Scenic determined I was off route it recalculated. I turned off the feature once I realized what was happening.
I only recently started seeing this behavior and the places the routing is trying to take me off the main road make no sense.
The first image below is from a route, the others are from the recorded ride where scenic directed me to exit during the IBA ride. I did not but I guess I was close enough where it recorded my location as being on the exit and on-ramp. This is happening on multiple roads in different states.

Quote from Guido on 06.07.2026, 17:20I'd like to investigate this further. Could you both send me:
Share links to the routes in question?
- Select route from your "My Routes" list > 3 dots button top right > share linkWith this I can analyze further and hopefully find possible cause (and solution).

Well , I have been riding about 5000 km the last 5 weeks, I do not remember where it happened. I am soon on my way back to Denmark from the south of France. When (if) it happens again, I will send you the route. I think it happens when I choose the shortest way, maybe, the routing off is a couples of meters shorter?

I deleted most of the routes I have encountered this on. I still have the one with West Virginia which is one of the screenshots I shared. Will recorded ride maps be ok? I have at least two I know of with this issue.
I assume you want an email link.

Quote from Guido on 07.07.2026, 20:29The route contains the routing mode you used. A ride does not. But, if you still remember the on-ramp/off ramp where this happened just the location (coordinate) will do. With that, I will try some routing modes to see if I can reproduce the issue.
To get the coordinates, long press the map on that location > copy coordinates’ > choose DEC and paste that here.

Quote from Atticuscat on 09.07.2026, 00:43I was routed off and back on to a major route yesterday. I’ve seen this behaviour before in earlier versions of Scenic but not recently but then I very rarely ride any distance on major roads to encounter it. Currently I’m using beta 4.42(2)
Route share (short test ride route to try out a potential bike purchase), put together with standard motorcycle routing as shown below. This is my standard routing settings but I don’t typically allow Scenic to determine my routes rather I place vias to shape the route myself. If I change to one click less adventurous the highway deviation is gone.

Quote from J-Me on 20.07.2026, 19:16Just got back today from a 5 day trip with buddies on the bikes....1,500 miles, some interstate. I counted 6 times Scenic guided me off the interstate just to get right back on. I fell for it twice, then started watching closer and stayed on instead of ramp on/off. Very frustrating.
occurred in Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas and Illinois

Quote from HOOK on 22.07.2026, 08:14I just got back from a few days on the road. 4800 miles, several states, from Houston, Texas to Glacier National Park in Montana, and back.
I had this problem fairly often - exit after exit, telling me to get off and get back on - including audible play-by-play to do so. So bad a times that I just abandoned it for another app.

Quote from HOOK on 25.07.2026, 09:25Sure. Happens multiple times between Gillette, WY and Buffalo, WY on this route - while skipping some of the exits like it should.

Hope that helps. I'm not sure what settings you'd want to see. This route was created in Google Maps and dropped into the online import converter. Imported onto my iPhone as a Track.

Quote from Mex on 25.07.2026, 22:47Hi folks.
This thread reminds me of my experience i had with Navigon Cruiser App 8 years ago.
It send me off the highway just to get me back on it. Happend 3 or 4 times till i ignored it. Been on A5 near Karlsruhe. We were on our way to Black Forest and Vogees. No traffic jam, no deviation.
I mention this because in my eyes its not Scenics fault. Must be somethimg else.
Ride safe, Mex

Quote from Guido on 27.07.2026, 12:25I'm working on a change in the routing configuration to avoid this (or at least reduce these cases). It's currently being tested in beta. I hope to release this version by the end of this week.
