Route Map Download
Quote from DarrenS on 18.05.2026, 00:48This may already be possible and I cannot find it, but...
Have a route in scenic which is my June EU trip, so covers areas of Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France etc.
Went to the download offline maps screen, and it very difficult to work out what maps you need to download (especially in Netherlands where there are many regions) as you cannot see your planned route on that map, so you have to try and work out which regions you need.
In the end I had to have my route on google maps on the Mac, then find each location by scrolling and zooming in the Scenic download page.
Is there / Can there be , a way to either a) select to show a specific route line on the download maps page, b) somewhere on the main area when viewing the route have a 'download maps for this route' option, or c) have a way to click the main map anywhere (like when it pops up a location pin) and have the option of 'download map of this region' for that location?
In my case, I ended up downloading the whole of the Netherlands as it was too hard to work out what map boundaries I crossed on the download page, so have wasted a lot of storage space that I really did not need to (especially as the trip is only 2 of 12 days in Netherlands).
Thanks
Darren

I understand the problem, and good suggestion. I'll add this to the list. Can't give you a date as currently quite busy with the Android version.
Cheers,
Guido

Johansw: Yes of course you can do that... assuming you have data on the road. I generally do not. I do not pay for roaming data and generally do not connect to public wifi -so when I am on the road I am in a digital 'online' detox as far as possible. 🙂 .All my hiking / city and ride maps are all downloaded before I leave home. Most countries this is fine as with the likes of Germany, France, it is pretty easy to know the 'regions' you need - but with the places like the Netherlands there is much more granularity so by not seeing the route on the download page you have to download many more regions - to give you an example, I have another non-ride app that I download the maps for. Had to download 12 regions on Scenic compared to 4 on the other app - just seeing that line makes it much easier to say 'I need that, I do not need that'
Each to their own needs, we all have different ways of travelling - for me, the less tech I need to do on the road the better - I work in IT and get 20 days off a year - for those 20 days I want no IT 🙂

Quote from johansw on 18.05.2026, 14:02I do remember Scenic having much larger regions = sometimes the whole country. People complained = got smaller areas, Now that is a problem. As you state = we all travel different. And thereby, everybode just can’t be happy. Personally I accept various I would have liked different, but that has to be OK. There are so many other functions and possibilities making my wishes bearable. Sometimes I feel sorry for Guido, as there is no end result..

Quote from DarrenS on 18.05.2026, 14:05True, but there is a 'feature request' section of the forum for a reason. I did not post as a bug or a moan, I posted as a feature request in the relevant area of a forum for a paid product.
The developer can then decide to take that feature request forward or to reject it. In this case Guido has accepted so to me case is closed and I am happy. If he had rejected I would have been less happy but still case closed. So to be honest once Guido commented either way I did not expect the conversation to be argued either way.
