Next month I have an off road rally I’m competing in, I have to use an android based app for the roadbook which is quite locked down and doesn’t allow recording of the track.
Will scenic record the track with the app running with the screen off to save power as my power supply will be powering my roadbook.

Yes, just make sure Scenic has “Always” location access

Following this up I checked that it did record ok and it did. Now the next question is if I’m not on a recognised road will it record exactly where I’ve been or will it try and save it to the road nearest.

There is a setting for this in settings > finetuning > “position to log”. By default it is set to ‘snapped’ meaning it will try to snap to the nearest road that’s on the map. If the nearest road is too far to snap it will log the raw position.

if you set this to “raw” it will always log the raw (unsnapped) position.
