Product suggestion - could multi-touch be used for different tasks?

There are a couple of things I'd love to be able to do with Scenic. One is to flag my current location with a note to remember/highlight the current location and the last N miles. Another is to flag an interesting location I might want to revisit (like a POI). Was thinking it would be cool if Scenic was able to detect multi-touch on the display and let you associate new flags/tasks that are dependent upon the number of fingers used to tap, swipe, etc. Seems like it would provide a ton of quick UI-driven options that otherwise might require more attention by the rider. It could potentially let you change map styles (toggle through them), switch from day to night, skip a stop, etc.

Flagging locations has been on the list for a long time. I will be adding it somewhere in the future. Hopefully I’ll find some time this fall/winter.

Not so sure about the multi-touch though. With riding gloves, multi touch is difficult and for some gloves impossible. Most gloves only have the index finger touch-enabled. Some have the thumb too. I don’t know of any riding gloves who have more than 2 fingers touch enabled.

Additionally these multi touch gestures are not ‘discoverable’. In other words, you really would have to know about them. You can’t find these functions by just tapping around in the app. You’d have to read about it somewhere. And, from my experience, the majority of people (including myself if I’m honest) don’t read instructions 🙂 . They just start tapping around.

I do see the advantage of them being less of a distraction when on the road, but they would only work without gloves. So, you’d have to stop on side of the road (possibly already having passed the point you want to flag), take out gloves, etc. If you’ve gone through the trouble of all that, then an extra button tap is not that much additional effort either.

Perhaps I could make the gestures additional to a button action  so, you can flag with a button on the screen, but also with a multi touch gesture?

If you're enjoying Scenic and are happy with the support, please leave a nice rating in the App Store. It would mean a lot to me ❤️

I agree on the multi-touch option (or gestures) being tough to remember or know about, but if they could be set up more as personal shortcuts (2 finger swipe up means x, 3 finger swipe means y), then people could customize them to their liking. For example, maybe a 2 finger swipe means remember this as a POI, 3 means remember this POI and the last 20 miles of riding, 2 finger tap means change map style (maybe a like a toggle), etc. They'd all be personal options.
