IOS 27 Beta and syncing

Hello,

I'm running IOS/iPadOS 27 Beta and noticed my syncing isn't working.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't help.

Is anyone else having the issue or is just me?

John

Had samme problem, iOS/iPadOS 27 beta, but it seems like 4.43 (3) helps

Thanks for the reply Anton.

I’m in the US and the latest version available is 4.42.

4.43 is still in beta. Will be released later this week if all goes well.

Thanks Guuido, Like always thanks for the prompt support.

I installed 4.43 in my iPhone and iPad Pro and the sync issue wasn't solved. I had 8 rides and a few routes that were not synced.

I logged out of the iPad and iPhone to see if that would resolve the issue and things got worse. After losing back in I lost 8 rides from the iPhone that where not synced and now have vanished.

I created a new route and it synced so that's good but is there any way to retrieve the lost 8 rides?

John

Hi John,

In the debug menu (long press version number at the bottom of settings) there is a “repair sync” button now.

First do this on the device where you have all the routes/rides. Then do it on the others device. And then do it again on the first device.

Cheers,

Guido

Guido,

Thanks for the VERY fast response.

The iPhone was the device that had all the rides/routes and now after the log out/log in the 8 rides are gone from the iPhone, so there isn't a device that has all the rides/routes currently.

Uhhh. Yes. If you logout, your local data is removed from the device. And since they never were uploaded to the server, they are gone. In that case there is nothing I can do. Very sorry.

Thanks, One of these days I'll learn not to play with beta versions of IOS and to ask question before I start taking trouble shooting steps.

It would have saved me all that trouble.

John

OK, I'll admit up front this wasn’t the smartest move but I just updated to Beta 5 and sync is again no longer working.

After you finish laughing and wondering "what the hell is wrong with this guy" I admit it was probably not a good decision.

That said let it be a warning to others to not take the Geek Bait.

Honestly, I'm not sure this is iOS27 Beta related. Is anyone else experiencing Scenic syncing problems with iOS27 beta? @anton-skomager are you still experiencing syncing problems? Anyone else?

@John, Are you using a VPN or security software by any chance? If so, try to disable that or add https://scenicapp.space to the "allow" list there.
If that doesn't help, try turning off your WiFi (use cellular data).

For context: a third-party security blacklist flagged our server a few weeks ago as a false-positive. VPNs, security tools, and some internet providers use that blacklist to filter traffic, which means they can block access to Scenic even though our server is operating normally.

We've already reported the false-positive and took measures and we are no longer on the blacklist. However, this can take time to propagate across all the services that use that blacklist. At the time of writing it seems to be resolved mostly, except for NordVPN. To add to that NordVPN has some kind of auto-reconnect feature that turns on the VPN automatically somehow. If you have NordVPN, makes sure that that's off too.

I'm running Surfshark but I turned it off to eliminate a variable and I added https://scenicapp.space also just to see if it helped. Turning off WiFi didn't help either.

John

No. No more syncing problems. Everything is working fine.

Guido,

I’m working on a IOS/iPadOS app so my devices are in Developer mode. Could that effect syncing?

No. I don’t think so. What happens when you open scenicapp.space on safari in your device?

Opens and I can login with no issues.

I can also drag a file into the box and then open it my iPad Pro/Mini and iPhone.

Guido,

I’m heading out on a trip tomorrow.

Besides keeping every ride on my iPhone and not logging out is there anything else I need to keep in mind so I don’t risk loosing rides?

John

Hi John.

Enjoy your trip. You may share each ride and send it to your e-mail adress after its done.
So you wont loose the data.

Ride safe, Mex

Guido,
Do you have any troubleshooting suggestions I can use to help me solve the sync issue?
My iPhone of course has the data and surprisingly so does the Mac version. However, the iPad Pro and iPad Mini still won’t sync.

When I try to Repair Sync I receive “Sync Repair Failed Please check your internet connection and try again” error. On ALL devices. VPNs are all off.

John

Some VPN's have an auto-connect feature. Make sure your VPN is completely off:

  • Open Settings on your iPhone/iPad.
  • Tap General
  • Tap VPN & Device Management.
  • Tap VPN at the top.
  • Check that the status toggle next to your configuration is switched off.
  • Tap the blue "i" icon next to the listed VPN configuration.
  • Turn off Connect On Demand or Auto-connect or something similar (some VPN's have this option) so the VPN does not automatically restart itself.

Even though the VPN was off, their Connect on Demand was on, turned off. Rebooted all devices.

Recorded rides synced (iPhone, iPad mini, Mac but not iPad Pro) but after I changed the title on a route on the iPhone name change was not synced on other devices.

Existing Routes are still not syncing

Creating a new route did not sync.

Did you try the repair sync after disabling the connect on demand? What happens now if you visit https://scenicapp.space on your iPad through your browser?

Same error as before and I'm able too access the Scenic Web App with no issues/errors.

Hmmm. Very weird. We might have to do a logout / login. But, before you do, is it correct that your iPhone has all your data and latest changes? Nothing is on your other devices that's not on your iPhone? If so, we'll take the iPhone as leading. What is the exact name of the new route you created and the old and new name of the route title you changed? If you prefer, send me a direct email through the email me button at the bottom of scenic.app/help
