Intercom heaset

Hi

I currently use Sena SMH 5 units for my partner and myself.

When I am on bike on my own Scenic works with SMH 5.  When partner is with me and intercom active Scenic does not pass instruction to headset. I know this is a problem with Sena 5.  What I am looking for is recommendations on intercom headsets which will allow intercom between both on bike and at same time pass instructions from Scenic to headsets.

thanks

Hy brandyman.

Me and my buddies all use packtalk bold by Cardo. We are 4 to 6 persons. We use DMC mesh communication.

means: You make a group, invite everyone into the group - and thats it.

We meet in the morning and while your in DMC mode you connect to your buddies automatically, even when your last ride was weeks ago. It just depends, who is in the group.

Everyone is listening to his preffered music, or radio station and when a member starts talking, music stays in the backround. Conversation finished, music volume increases.

Most times i am the guide. Scenic is telling me the direction. Conversation is interrupted.

Some ideas:

You can tell Sena what is more important for you. Check your setup. Like: reconnect automatically.

Does Sena support MESH function? No idea. Installed two Sena‘s but didnt check the app.

Ask Sena support.
No help? Change to Cardo!

Just kidding and good luck, Mex

I'm not very familiar with the SMH5, but does it not have a setting to change the priorities?
Typically the piorities are like this... From high to low, meaning higher will interrupt lower, and lower can not interrupt higher if higher is active):
1) Phone call
2) Intercom
3) Music (Voice instructions play like music when Voice Output is set to 'device default' in Scenic)

Some headsets can change this priority, or have configurable interruption options.

What you also can do is, in Scenic, change the voice output to 'As Phonecall (HFP). This will play the intstructions as a phonecall, and therefore, typically, interrupt the intercom. There are some disadvantages though. HFP has lower sound quality, and there might be a delay, making the first bit of the instruction drop off. You'll have to give it a try to make sure.

If you're enjoying Scenic and are happy with the support, please leave a nice rating in the App Store. It would mean a lot to me ❤️

Hi Guido

Have always had setting to As Phonecall (HFP)

Sena user manual does say

Function Priority. 1. Phonecall. 2. Intercom 3. Music Sharing by bluetooth. 4. FM Radio.

The manual has no settings for these so I am assuming it is fixed by default.

There are other settings such as 1. multipoint sharing ie phone and separate gps unit. 3. Multipoint phone sharing two phones  2. Intercom facility with upto four other riders.

As mentioned above settings in Scenic are Phonecall HFP but for some reason the function priority that sena mention in manual is not working hence suggestions for alternative intercom that would work

Ok. In that case, this might have been caused by a bug in one of the previous Scenic versions.

What version are you running at the moment? You can see version number at bottom of Settings.

If not v3.12 then update and try with that version. You can update through the AppStore: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1089668246

Also, to find out where the issue is (your Sena or Scenic), you could try with another navigation app. I suggest Waze. Make sure that Waze sound output is set to “play as Bluetooth phonecall” to make it a good comparison.

Hi Guido

running version 3.12.

will try your suggestion of Waze.

I have also raised support ticket with Sena as I have feeling the problem maybe with the SMH5

Hi Guido

Tried Waze as suggested with setting ‘play as Bluetooth phonecall’

Straightforward setup as follows and worked perfectly.

Factory reset both Sena SMH 5 ear pieces. Cleared SMH 5 from Bluetooth list on iphone.

Paired both SMH 5 earpieces in intercom mode.

Paired riders ear piece to iphone.

Tested intercom and worked fine.

Setup test route in Waze and activated navigation mode.

Instructions from Waze over ride intercom and can be heard in riders earpiece. Once Waze instruction completed ear pieces revert to intercom mode.

This setup worked first time with no glitches.

I am thinking based on the above that Sena SMH 5 may not be compatible with Scenic.

Really like Scenic and want to stick with it.  May have to look at alternative units for helmets. Problem is which ones as I do not want to go down the same route of similar problems I am having with existing SMH 5

In that case I don’t think you need a new headset. The problem lies with how Scenic uses the ‘Bluetooth HFP’ / ‘As Phone call’ option.

Let me have a look at this With a few code adjustments I can probably make Scenic work with your headset, just like Waze.

Ill report back here if I have an update ready for this

Hi Guido

Thanks for that.
I will keep a look out.

I to am having the same problem my Sena 10S works perfectly when I am alone but as soon as I pair to a friend and have Scenic set to Phone output I get no audible over speed notification

The big update I’m working on (see latest issue of Scenic Monthly: https://scenic.app/scenic-monthly-february-2023/) will contain a new audio engine that will resolve this issue.

Guido

Love this App last time i asked question below you mentioned it was in development process.

Any update on changes to Scenic to allow audible over speed alerts on Sena headsets when connected to another rider via intercom ?

Sorry. Big update is still in development. A little while longer.

You need to turn on audio multitasking.

This works for me. If you use priory for music or intercom nav sound doesn't pass through.

Where do I find this function it is not mentioned in Sena manual ?
