Import GPX file seems to cut details
Quote from GruenesZimmerhuhn on 29.01.2024, 11:31Hey Scenic,
at first, I downloaded scenic one hour ago and immediately I feel very comfortable with it. Great Work!
Now I tried to import a gpx file generated (just track points) from kurviger.de with 3000 points, long track almost 600km highway with 2 stops close to the highway. During import the file these 2 stops were shown not in the routing line but in the fine track line. So I guess, the stops are not included in the routing. Yes, I see the option "use fine line as route" and of course this works but then I have not the opportunity to modify the route.
Is there a way to import the file "as expected", so that it will be a "proper" route to scenic?
Something similar happens during the reimport in kurviger. It also shown all points as a fine line and the valid route as a thicker line. But there is a adjustable parameter "limit waypoints", if I increase the value, also the short stops / details will be part of the final route. Is there something similar in scenic what causes the behaviour?
Greetings Frank

Did you use the "Send to Scenic" button on the Kurviger website? This will preserve the stops and via (shaping) points. See here: https://scenic.app/help/ways-sources-to-import/
Even then, it's still possible that Scenic calculates the route differently (because Scenic uses different maps and a different routing algorithm), but most of the time, you will be able to correct this by adding/moving some via points.
Best regards,
Guido

fastest answer ever 🙂
I wasn't aware of this button but now I found it and try this way. Generate the route and use the button on the pc (more comfortable than on the mobile) and use the import link on the mobile app of scenic (On the pc web app there is no way to do the same). Unfortunately I get this error message.
I try also your other suggested way, to import the calculated route and modify it at the relevant cases. This works fine, the only negative aspect is to be aware of this cases where I have to do something manually (which was already done in kurviger).
Thanks for your answer. Greetings Frank

I just tried myself and it worked. Sometimes, this happens when Scenic starts calculating before it downloads all required map regions. Downloading the offline map for the countries should resolve this. Another way is to go to the Scenic start screen and move the map around a bit along the regions you need, zooming in somewhat. This will start map downloads to the cache and should help too.
I gave you some more credits so you can download the offline maps to try.
Cheers,
Guido

thanks for the credits. With that, I downloaded the missing two maps and tried it again but with the same error. Than I delete the route in the scenic box and make the whole procedure again, load the kurviger file into kurviger and send it again to scenic and it works fine. In the first moment I was wondering but than I remember that in the first try I used in kurviger a imported gpx file which lead to the error, in the second try I use the kurviger file (with just the waypoints), and this worked.
In the meantime I am a little more familiar with the way to import a route, as like you said, scenic calculates the route in a different way. But sometimes I am wondering about that. For example, I have a route in kurviger, save just some waypoints (no exact gps data) and import the file to scenic. Scenic shows me exact the same route as the fine line but ignores in some cases the given street names and make its own routing (a little bit like the behaviour of my wife). Sometimes it can be fixed with an additional "Via X" points but sometimes scenic is stubborn.
Finally a very good app and solution in combination with kurviger. Now I can start planning the whole route through the south of england in detail. I will recommend scenic to all my friends,
