Ignoring waypoints
Quote from DM on 07.06.2025, 21:37I thought there was a thread for this issue. If so, I didnt find it, so my apologies for the redundancy.
I just finished a 700 mile trip in which Scenic ignored 8 selected waypoints. Since I was not aware it was not following the route I chose, we missed some key Arkansas Roads I needed to hit. In one case it selected a very bizarre route. A few details to help assess:
- I planned the route on one Apple device, and navigated on a different device. (This has not been an issue before that I can recall.)
- The total route was 700 miles with one stop before the finish, and then the earlier mentioned 8 waypoints.
- I had errors at the start of the trip such as "Network Connection Lost" and an immediate "Ride Tracking Paused".
- I am using the app hardwired to Apple Car Play. (this continues to crash, but that is a different conversation).
- I have not changed any settings in six months, so no reason it would skip any waypoints.

Could you have a look here: https://scenic.app/help/detour-behaviour-scenic/
and here: https://scenic.app/help/start-a-route-in-the-middle/
This might explain it, depending on your settings.
Regarding “ network connection lost”… do you have offline maps installed?
Regarding the CarPlay crashes… a beta version is currently being tested. Results are promising.
Ride tracking paused… should only happen after 90 seconds not moving
Scenic 4 was released in October (8 months ago)… the detour behaviour settings changed somewhat compared to Scdnic 3. When you last changed the detour behaviour settings about 6 months ago… could that also have been 8 months? In other words, could that have still been Scdnic 3?

Your fast responses are always much appreciated.
Maybe some answers to your questions will be useful. See below.
My only follow up question is about the route planning. I typically plan routes on an iPad, but then navigate with an iPhone. I wouldn’t think that is an issue technically; have you heard of that being an issue?
- I am on version 4.18
- I do have some offline maps installed; but I just found that one of the states I was traveling to (Arkansas) was not. So, perhaps that explains that prompt.
- In fact, Arkansas was where it ignored my vias. Cell service is pretty sketchy in the mountains; so maybe that’s the explanation.
- I’ve always kept the app on "Guide me to the first unreached via point"
Thanks Guido,

No... shouldn't be an issue.

Yes...that's very likely the explanation. Even if you are in a state where you do have the offline map installed when you deviate... the entire route is recalculated, and if the route passes an area for which the offline map is not installed, it can't be calculated offline, and Scenic will fall back to online calculation.
Thanks for the answers.
