HERE maps
Quote from Kev450 on 09.08.2024, 11:25I don't know how Scenic got "upgraded" (I see it as a downgrade) to HERE maps, not sure about people in Europe but my experience with it in North America has been horrible so far. Very outdated satellite imagery, points of interests misplaced and/or literally nonexistent, route names/numbers only show up when your very zoomed in, to the point where I need to use Google Maps for everything but navigation which makes creating itineraries very tedious... I never used the forum before and I know people that don't use it, some don't even know about it, how many people use the app vs the forum? I'm curious about running a poll to see how many would prefer the app to upgrade to Google Maps because let's be honest, it's a whole lot more accurate for everything from satellite imagery to POI's and etc.!

Quote from Guido on 09.08.2024, 11:40I would love to use Google Maps. But the Google Maps framework has limitations that are unacceptable for Scenic. The biggest one being that it doesn't offer offline maps, no offline search, no offline routing for 3rd party apps.
Scenic was "upgraded" to HERE 3 years ago already. But.... improvement is coming soon.
Stay tuned.

Stay tuned.Don't get me wrong, I love the Scenic app, I just hate it's "backbone" so to speak... If it weren't for it's interface and how you actually create an itinerary (which I love), I definitely wouldn't be paying for it and probably be using some other app. I am not even exaggerating on how horrible my experience has been since you introduced HERE maps, I wish I was trust me!
You may have been testing HERE maps in the background because I remember clearly when my horrible experience started..! From your Scenic 3.5 update which you posted on January 29th 2024! https://scenic.app/what-new-features-to-expect-from-the-big-2024-update-scenic-3-5/
"New HERE Map Framework
Central to everything with the update is the new HERE Map Framework. Essentially, we’re updating the entire backbone of the app. "

Quote from Guido on 09.08.2024, 12:11Indeed Scenic 3.5 was the update to the new HERE map framework. Scenic 3 before that used the old HERE map framework. Scenic 2 used another framework based on OSM maps.
As mentioned... improvement is coming soon.

Quote from Kev450 on 09.08.2024, 13:05I get the offline part, very practical but the problem is that when I need to add a POI on the spot while travelling and it brings me to something that doesn’t exist anymore..it has happened! Now that’s not very useful.

Quote from Guido on 09.08.2024, 13:08I understand.
Did you know that Scenic also has Google Search?
For example, if you want to find a POI, go to the search panel and tap, for example, "fuel". You'll first get a list of HERE results and Apple Maps search results. If it doesn't find what you are looking for, you can scroll down to the bottom and tap the little "Search Google" button.
This requires an internet connection... as Google is contacted when tapping that button.
