Filter out private parking
Quote from Charlie J on 17.06.2025, 09:39Hi Guido
Is it possible to filter out private parking from the parking POIs ? Many of the parking POI's are for private parking in schools, resudential parking or commercial premises and not intended for "public" parking.
Here are a few coordinates that give examples of the problem
52.099721,-4.702337
52.078525,-4.656767
52.080247,-4.655836
52.079420,-4.658208
51.677227,-4.145135
51.693649,-4.149106
51.672065,-4.163618
Really enjoying Scenic, it just gets better and better!

Can you check if you are on the latest version 4.20? This was fixed in 4.19. You can see version number at the bottom of settings. You can update through the app store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1089668246
If they are still showing, then it could be that those parking spaces are not marked as private in OpenStreetMap data. If they are still showing after updating, could you send me the exact coordinates of one of those parking spaces? Long press map at that location and then choose 'copy coordinates'. Send me the DEC coordinates.
Cheers,
Guido

Thanks for the amazingly fast response!
I am using version 4.20. These are the coordinates of one example where there are individual private parking spaces on a holiday park 52.099620,-4.702682. If you need any more examples, please let me know.

These are not marked as private. They are marked as “customers”. See screenshot.
Looking at the description of this tag, I don’t think they should be filtered out. E.g. if you go to a mall or to IKEA, you want to see where the parking is, even though this is only for customers: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:access=customers?uselang=en
If you feel that these particular parkings should be marked as private you can leave a comment or fix yourself: https://scenic.app/help/reporting-map-errors/

I see your point, but I still think that it would be useful to be able to filter out parking places that are not "public" in the recognised sense. I don't know about others, but my primary use of Scenic is to plan routes to generally unfamiliar places and it would be convenient to identify public parking spaces especially when travelling in a group. At the moment it is not possible to do this in Scenic without trawling through a plethora of parking POI's, the majority of which are "customer" parking. On the other hand in the unlikely event of me ever wanting to go to a mall or Ikea I think it would be easy enough to find the car park.
Just my two pence worth.
