Distance to fuel

Having come from using TomTom, I'm finding Scenic far superior (though I miss creating routes on my Windows PC) but one feature I liked on TomTom is the side bar which shows an overview of the route with distance to the next fuel station on the route.

It's very useful when your fuel is getting low, and you can see exactly how far you need to ride before you come across a fuel station - and by implication whether you need to divert from the route to find fuel.

Don't know if anything similar could be added, but thought it worth mentioning.

Something like this is on the list, although too exactly. So, in TomTom it's showing gas stations that are more or less on your route? Even though you did not add them to the route specifically?

Yes that’s right. I’m not sure what criteria it uses - I don’t think they need to be directly on the route (though they frequently are) so I guess there’s probably a maximum distance from the route. You don’t need to add them yourself.

I'm just back from a 5200 mile trip to Nordkapp where finding fuel can be an issue.

I would be great if, when following a planned gpx route, Scenic would offer petrol stations on the route with distances rather than on the map with as the crow flies direct distances. In Norway some of the closest fuel was across a fjord with no ferry or over a mountain range with no road or tunnel.

Is this feature possible? It seems from the Forum if something like this was due to be released in 2024?

Garmin offer a similar thing that will find the nearest petrol station either (user choice) on or near the forward route - ie not requiring a u-turn. It would work well if garmin’s map data wasn’t so hopelessly out of date. Part of the reason my XT Zumo lives on a shelf not on the bike is that it all too frequently routed me to places where fuel might have been sold years ago, but the place had clearly been gone for a long time…

Something like that function would definitely be useful but could fall prey to the same issue 🙁

Correct! When Scenic was first switched over to OSM data, I updated a number of out of date local fuel listings, one of which had closed almost 10 years ago!
