Creating a route using power planner
Quote from Ktm_kid on 08.03.2023, 01:33Why does Scenic not report highway road closures when creating a route? Using the Google app will generally identify if a road is closed and select another route. At least in the US.
If this is correct, I believe this should be reported as a defect in Scenic.

Quote from Guido on 08.03.2023, 06:05At the moment Scenic doesn’t include real-time traffic information nor longer-term road closures. This will be added in the future though.
If you’d like to include this, at the moment, the only way is to plan the route in Google on your desktop, and then import the route into Scenic. This obviously only helps for long term closures. Temporary closures change all the time.
Here’s how to import from Google Maps: https://scenic.app/help/ways-sources-to-import/

Quote from Ernst on 08.03.2023, 13:00I think it's a big plus that Scenic doesn't account for current road closures. I like to plan my routes for the summer in winter. Google Maps is practically useless there, since all possible mountain pass roads cannot be planned.
@Guido: If you build this into Scenic, please make it deactivatable!

Quote from mattsz on 08.03.2023, 13:37I see Ktm_kid's point... although I certainly wouldn't call Scenic's current inability to account for real-time traffic information a "defect."
I'm with Ernst, though: almost all of my route planning happens days or weeks in advance of my rides. And in my local rural area, real-time traffic information, if it's available at all, is fairly useless.
If you enable this feature, please allow us to deactivate it when not needed if you can.

Quote from Ktm_kid on 08.03.2023, 13:42I live in Southern California, and there are many road closures currently due to significant rainfall/snowfall/mudslides over the past month or so. I just returned from a one month trip to New Zealand where I also did some motorcycling, which just experienced numerous road closures due to Cyclone Gabriel. These road closures may last from a few hours to a few days to even longer durations and are not seasonal in nature. Scenic was not a reliable aid to use in these instances because of the numerous road closures.
I respectfully disagree that it is a "big plus" to go to Google first in order to ensure the selected roads are not closed. I prefer to use a single app to plan my route, and would like to use Scenic to do so! This is not only simpler than using two apps, but Scenic offers features that Google does not, like selecting curvy and extra curvy routes, as well as selecting interesting routes that other riders have recommended in that region. Having to use Google to plan the route will mean I cannot rely on utilizing these options in Scenic to produce a route that is open.
My two cents!

Quote from Guido on 08.03.2023, 13:48First step in this is making road constructions visible on the map. That's coming very soon as part of the big update: Check out my latest post on Facebook: https://fb.watch/j8DQuE6E4u/
Automatically routing around road works is a whole other level. Will be optional for sure as many like to plan weeks, sometimes even months, in advance. + Making this optional would make everyone happy.

Yet another reason why I prefer Scenic to Google; the ability to speak to a real person about the product !
