Crash Locations POI
Quote from Armin22 on 25.02.2022, 02:22Hi there,
under my POI group I have another speed camera POI with many POI's in the locations. When I go to my POI group, the app crashes immediately. I have no possibility of deleting the Böitzer POI's. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app doesn't help either. I have already closed all APP's before opening SCenic, but that doesn't help either. I use an iphone 13 with the scenic verse. 3.07. Is there a solution for this? Many greetings

(My poi groups) can also be deleted by tapping on the corresponding poi group in the folder for a longer time without opening the respective poi group, a menu will then appear with delete, move, select all. That helped me when I created a too large poi group. If you keep a poi group smaller (less than 4000 pois each), it works without any problems. At least for me, but also when activating and displaying too many pois in the map, the app slows down or even crashes. For example, an iPhone SE2020 cannot tolerate more than 22000 pois at the same time and the app crashes, an iPad Pro 2017 e.g. "tolerates" up to 32000 pois until the app crashes. So do not activate and display too many pois at the same time, the amount of pois does not matter if it is deactivated.

Sounds like maybe some data got currupted. To investigate I might need to reset your password so I can login with your account. Could you provide me with your Scenic nickname? Then I’ll contact you over email after that. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Even if something is wrong with the data, it shouldn’t crash. It should give you a warning. So, probably a bug. If you want, could you please send me an email with the data you are trying to add? Then ill try on my side.

Quote from Guido on 25.02.2022, 21:30I already knew big POI groups caused some performance problems, but after some deeper analyses today I know more:
At some point (some zoom level), the map frameworks starts to load ALL markers of ALL active (=turned on in the 'show on map' selector) POI groups in memory , even when the map is not in an area where POIs are. This causes a huge spike in memory (RAM) usage. iOS does not like those big spikes... and kills the app.
This is the reason for both issues mentioned in this thread. Because also when creating the map thumbnail in the 'My POI Groups' list view, the markers are loaded.
Unfortunately this is not an easy fix. It's a bug in the map framework. I'll have to report this to the map provider and they have to fix it. Or I'll have to build my own solution for this. Probably the latter is the fastest. In any case it will take some time.
Very sorry I haven't got any better news, but for now this is it. Meanwhile I recommend to deactivate these big POI groups in the 'show on map' layer selector.

Quote from peer234@icloud.com on 18.04.2022, 15:12I have the same problem. I had to reinstall scenic, fortunately it deactivated the poi group so I am able to use scenic. However I cannot acces 'locations' in the menu. While loading it crashes so it's impossible to delete the poi group.
Any idea?

OK. I have removed this POI group for you. Could you close Scenic completely through the app switcher. Then reopen, and see if it works now?
