Changing Navigation: What Am I Doing Wrong?
Quote from Paul_Guertin on 01.06.2025, 19:27I ran into an issue today that was getting me quite frustrated. I was riding/tracking a planned route of 770 kms with three stops along the way. At one point I came to a road closure that had a short, marked detour. Taking the detour did not cause me to miss any stops or via points however Scenic kept trying to route me back to where I came from. I pulled over and wanted to cancel the navigation so I could restart it but without stopping my recording. There used to be a big button for ‘Stop Navigation’ but it no longer exists. I tried to restart the route expecting it to start navigation from where I was located (on the route) but it was trying to bring me back to the start of the route. Then, I believe it was trying to route me to my destination but a different way that I think would have been the most direct/fastest way. I ultimately figured out to restart the route and then delete the starting point as well as the two stops I had already passed and then it finally started working.
I’m usually pretty handy with the app so I’m feeling like quite the dummy today! What is the proper/best way to handle this situation in the future? Essentially, how do you cancel navigation and then join a route from your current location?

This can happen if turning you back is still faster than taking another route (after all Scenic did not know the road was blocked, so probably thought it was faster to turn you around and take that road).
I pulled over and wanted to cancel the navigation so I could restart it but without stopping my recording. There used to be a big button for ‘Stop Navigation’ but it no longer exists.
Yes... this has changed. It's still possible: go to edit/overview mode (by moving the map or tapping overview button in navigation menu) > tap 'edit route' > tap the clear route button.
I tried to restart the route expecting it to start navigation from where I was located (on the route) but it was trying to bring me back to the start of the route.
This indeed has also changed. Still possible to start a route "in the middle". Have a look here: https://scenic.app/help/start-a-route-in-the-middle/

I ran into this issue again today so I’m going to try to be very detailed in describing the issue…
I started out on this route:
https://scenicapp.space/route/KlwALkBc
I intentionally took a slightly different route (red) to force Scenic to recalculate (just like as if there was a short detour). See here:
While travelling on the ‘red road’, Scenic recalculated and directed me to turn right up ahead to rejoin the route. So far so good.
Once I was back on the route, I noted that Scenic was telling me to turn right on Lake Street, which I knew was not the route I had planned. When I pulled over and dragged my finger on the map to examine the intended navigation, I saw an entire section of the route had been turned gray, including the #1 via point.
This is exactly the problem I was running into last week that prompted me to make my initial post above.
It appears that once Scenic has to recalculate getting back to the route, it immediately defaults to the fastest, most direct route to the next Stop or the Finish.
Even clearing all navigation as you described in your reply above, and then choosing the route again and not to be guided to the route start, results in Scenic not following the planned route but rather trying to take me the fastest way.

It sound like you might have turned on to auto-skip waypoints. Have a look here for more details: https://scenic.app/help/detour-behaviour-scenic/
If that's not the reason, please let me know.
Best regards,
Guido

Sorry to waste your time.
