CarPlay: no way to change routing type / Skip routing start
Quote from CHiLi on 01.07.2025, 00:40I noticed recently that there is no way to change the routing type for newly planned destinations when using Carplay. When you plan a route to a destination via Carplay, Scenic is always using whatever routing type (standard, short, fast, ...) was used the last time with no way of changing that. This is espacially annoying as f*ck since you have to either turn of the bike or turn off connectivity on the phone to change the routing type since scenic otherwise only displays "Scenic is displayed on Carplay" or sorts.
The other issue I noticed was, when you start to navigate a pre-planned route, there is no simple way to skip the starting point. The only way is to "show vias", then edit and delete the starting point and only THEN start to navigate the route. Why is there no control button like "Skip via X" when you're navigating the route? In terms of a consistent user interface this would also be a benefit instead of having two different workflows for essentially the same task.

Quote from Guido on 01.07.2025, 06:19In addition to what Dae says, there is a “skip waypoint” button in CarPlay. It looks different due to CarPlay limitations. Have a look here: https://scenic.app/help/detour-behaviour-scenic/

Preface: the "Skip starting point" issue was not related to Carplay - maybe the title was misleading for this issue. Only the routing type is linked to Carplay.
And in the Scenic UI (without Carplay) there is simply no "Skip Waypoint" or "Skip start"-button. See attached screenshot (active route navigation in the background with "Drive to starting point" as the current instruction).
As I wrote: the only option to skip the starting point is to delete it from the list of vias BEFORE navigating the route is started. Which is inconsistent with the "Skip via"-button that's there when navigating the route actually started.
Regarding the missing routing type option in Carplay: don't you guys find it funny yourself to recommend a workaround as the "solution" to a problem? Just to outline a scenario, where this workaround simply is annoying as heck: the Scenic-User uses Carplay with his phone tucked deep inside a pocket. Yeah, changing the active Carplay app, then (in most cases) undressing your gloves to be able t0 nestling the phone from your pocket just to change the routing type for a newly planned route sounds pretty user-friendly. Not. 🤷♂️

Nope, Scenic does not ask where to go when I start navigating a preplanned route. It simply starts with "Drive to starting point" as the current instruction without asking anything.

Quote from Guido on 01.07.2025, 08:04Ok. Maybe I misunderstood. At what point do you want to skip the starting point? Is that BEFORE you start the navigation?
The skip waypoint button only appears after you started navigation AND if you are on the route.
If you have a route where the start point is very close to your current location then Scenic won’t ask if you want navigation ti the start point. In that case Scenic will just start navigation when you reach the route (skipping the start point automatically if you reach the route after the start point).
If you deliberately want to skip the start point before starting navigation then indeed you can edit the route and remove the start point or choose “I’ll find my own way“. More info on that here: https://scenic.app/help/start-a-route-in-the-middle/
Perhaps I’m misunderstanding your situation, but I’m pretty sure there is a skip waypoint button on iPhone and on CarPlay, but again it only appears if above 2 conditions are met. It will not appear if you are not on the route yet. In other words, it will not appear if Scenic still says “go to route” because in that case Scenic doesn’t know at which part of the route you are so doesn’t know what the next waypoint is.
Let me know if I still misunderstood. Happy to help if I can.

I want to start navigating a pre-planned route without having to manually edit the vias of the route before actually starting the navigation and without the need to "drive to the starting point" (which, s a consequence due to not having a simple "skip starting point" button, is mandatory since Scenic does not ask where to start the navigation). I am pretty sure that older versions of Scenic actually asked where to start the navigation of a route (I remember options like "from the start", "from the nearest via" etc). This obviously has disappeared from newer versions. Why?
Simply imagine a situation where I have a pre-planned route that I want to navigate (in fact, I actually do have several routes like this imaginary one!). Starting point is your home location - which is fine like 99% of the time. But today you're simply not at home - you're at your friend's house and want to to a happy tour with him together, but your current location is some miles away from your standard starting point. Why, oh why does Scenic either force me to either manually edit the vias and delete the starting point in order to just make via number 1 the first point Scenic wants to navigate to or, as the "alternative", drive to the damn starting point (which then will magically unlock the "Skip next via"-button in the menu). Sigh - forgive me my frustration, but I am under the impression, that the wish for a consistent user-interface is nothing out of the ordinary).
Ans yes - again - there IS a "Skip waypoint"-button - AFTER Scenic has recognized that you are on the planned route! But if the starting point is a detour, then the only option the user is left with is to edit the vias. This is simply annoying.
// edit:
Back in 2022 I used Scenic to navigate a multi-day-trip from Hamburg to the North Cape and back. I had a single, pre-planned route for all of it. All. Of. It. And every day when I got on my bike Scenic simply asked me where I want to start navigating the route - to which I happily replied "from the nearest via". Then a quick glance on the map if the nearest via was perhaps already passed the day before followed by a "Skip next waypoint" button press if that was the case. Bam. Worked flawlessly for several thousand miles and 16 days in a row. Momentarily I am under the impression that this would simply not be possible anymore. Which is saddening.

Quote from Guido on 01.07.2025, 09:54This is more simple than you think. If the starting point is far away from your current location Scenic (on CarPlay) will ask if you want navigation to the start. If you choose No, it will say “go to route”. When you reach the route (by yourself without navigation) then navigation will start from wherever you are, automatically skipping waypoint before your joining point. On iPhone it works similar. Take a look at the help article I linked above.
If the route start is very close to your current position Scenic won’t ask and the same thing will happen.
The “nearest via point” option doesn’t exist anymore. I’m going to add that back later, but will take a while. For now, the two options are “join at start” or “find your own way”. Its explained in the link above.
Hope this clears it up.
