Avoid urban/cities while using avoid highways
Quote from Medic12061 on 22.08.2023, 11:14I really like using this app to avoid highways and it does a fairly good job until, it comes to urban/city area to get through. I travel these great 2 lane routes only to routed through the downtown and suburbs of a city so that the app can avoid highways.
I see 2 option that could be used as avoid urban/city areas:
-avoid highways when possible with avoid urban/city area turned on
-avoid urban/city area when possible while still avoiding highways
example: while travelling from Ontario, Canada to Laconia, NH we had avoid highways set on but when it can to Rochester, NY the app honoured the No highway rule but took us through city streets putting us greater risk than being on the highway. Especially because we were a group of 10 bikes.
I understand that I could create the route and then force the route onto the highway for the area that I want to avoid but, I’m wondering if there is a setting that could be added that does this automatically.

Quote from Guido on 22.08.2023, 11:33I understand the request. I've had similar request in the past.
Creating such a routing mode is, at the moment, not possible though, I'm afraid. Scenic uses HERE maps and the HERE routing algorithm. At the moment, HERE doesn't have a routing option to avoid urban areas / city centers. I have requested this to them though, but as it's a big company, they move slow with implementation feature requests. As soon as they add such a feature, I will be the first to add it to Scenic as well, of course.
Hope this helps/explains. If not, please let me know if you have other questions. Happy to help.
Best regards and ride safe,
Guido

Set your target while your in power-planer mode. Your startpoint as well of course.
Set a via beside the center of the city you like to avoid. Just a click.
Navigation options may stay to: Avoid highways.
Now you have no citys and no highways at all. Check the route, correct it with more vias if needed, save it and: have fun!
