Another bug report from todays 500kms trip
Quote from Lo100469 on 19.11.2024, 10:56Hi Guido,
I’m on V4.05 using CarPlay with a cable from an IPhone 13mini.
A big thank you because overall everything worked fine, just a couple of glitches.
- I had to stop for fuel between the starting point and waypoint 1. A 200m detour and Scenic did try to send me back to the starting point. I skipped the starting point and both directions and ETA/kms left boxes disappeared. Just disconnecting the phone and connecting again fixed it
- the screen went to dark mode in a tunnel, but it never went back to light mode. I stopped for lunch and and reconnected the phone afterwards and it was back to light mode, but then it never switched to dark mode even when i could see the background going dark.
- zoom issue, happened only once as mentioned in another thread.
- my phone died at 5pm, I left home at 9h30 this morning and only used Scenic via CarPlay, no other app open, phone connected and charging. The battery app says scenic is using most of the last 24h battery. All maps are downloaded so this must be GPS related. Also the auto pause did not seem to work as the arrow indicating GPS use was still on 30min after i stopped. So the phone uses more power that what it gets via USB-A.
Nothing major, the battery issue is the only one that bothers me long term,
Cheers,
Laurent

OK. I believe this is because you were not moving. Scenic currently needs a new location to come in to determine new ETA and new navigation instruction. I'll see if I can change that, so that it immediately updates.

OK. I'll take a look.
Battery usage: I'll take a look. Is your phone locked while connected to CarPlay, or is your screen still on? Also, you might want to take a look at your charging solution. Here's a forum post on that. https://scenic.app/forum/topic/charge-iphone-and-use-scenic-while-driving/#postid-3867

On bullet point one, i was moving, i left it without ETA/directions for about 20min to see if this would fix itself but it did not. I could only see the purple track.
My screen if off when i use CarPlay and i don’t have much choice on how to charge the phone, the Honda requires a cable connection. I will try another cable if the issue remains tomorrow. I did reset the phone, let’s see if that makes a difference.

Quote from Guido on 19.11.2024, 11:43What kind of connection does your Honda have? USB, or cigarette lighter? Do you know the wattage or amps it can provide? When running a nav app like Scenic I recommend at least 10 watts (2 amps). If you have a cigarette lighter port then it's easy to change to a cable that can provider this. If it's a built in USB port that only provides 5 watts (1 amp) it's not that easy.

Quote from Lo100469 on 19.11.2024, 12:04I’m on a Goldwing non Tour 2023, i think it is 1.5amp USB-A. This is the only way to connect to CarPlay the bike will not recognize another usb port/wireless.

Quote from BONES on 20.11.2024, 16:23I am on a 2021 Golding and hen I plug in my phone it ill charge it up. I have not had a problem with the phone dying but my headset will only last about 12-14 hours and when it shuts off it will kill the connection for carplay.
I did have some bugs on a ride last Wednesday. The map would not recognize I had been to a stopping point and kept rerouting me. I had to manually skip the waypoint. And later in the day the map dropped off. I had to pull over and restart Scenic to finish the ride.

Quote from Lo100469 on 21.11.2024, 03:42Hi,
Thanks, i restarted the phone and indeed no battery issue yesterday on another 500kms trip, phone was still fully charged at the end, i just remove a lot of background app refresh that are not needed, but also notice that "find me" used a lot of battery.
I also faced a couple of smaller issues:
- stop for fuel and again full recalculation to the last waypoint that was 50kms behind me. I will try "no recalculation" in the future
- when skip waypoint, the direction box disappeared, i still had ETA this time, had to unplug the phone and replugged it to fix it
- the top right box with scale/elevation.. moved towards the middle of the screen when direction box disappeared
- map when to dark mode in a tunnel and never came back to light mode. CarPlay setting is automatic on the dash.
but overall, very happy with the progress, just need some more refining and we are good 🙂 thanks Guido

On bullit one, I confirm this experience during the ride after a stop.
No directions, only purple track and a voice telling me where to go.4.05 gives a big improvement.
