Russian/Chinese/Arabic/Cyrillic labels on the map

For texts of bigger places, cities, etc. Scenic has the local name and also translated names available. In Settings > Map Settings > Map Language you can choose to always show the local language, or use your iOS Preferred language list to show the translated names (if available).

If you choose Preferred Language List, the language that will be shown is based on:

(1) the translations that Scenic knows for a city, and
(2) your preferred language list in iOS Settings > General > Language & Region.

Scenic starts with the first language in your preferred language list; if it has a translation for that city, it will show it. If it does not, it will go to the 2nd language in your preferred language list. etc. If none of the translations exist, then it will use the original untranslated text.

So, to fix city names showing in languages that you don’t speak, make sure your preferred language list contains the languages you want, and does not contain any languages you don’t speak, and is in the order you prefer. iOS Settings > General > Language and Region.
