Zooming map in carplay while route is active
Quote from Yo on 08.08.2022, 10:46Hi Guido,
using Scenic quite a lot now under carplay on my BMW touch screen. I can freely move and zoom the map using the screen up until i started active routing/navigation. Why is it? Would be great to change map zoomlevel also while actively routing. Or do i maybe miss something? When i try to move or zoom while activ routing focus always snaps back to my actual position.

Quote from Guido on 08.08.2022, 11:13When you start navigation, auto-zoom and auto-centering is activated (keep current position centered and zooms in/out based on your speed). There are two ways to zoom and pan the map in navigation mode without it jumping back because of the 'auto' behaviour:
- Enable manual zoom in Settings > Navigation & Tracking. This will add two zoom buttons to the CarPlay display while navigating. However panning will still not work. I will still jump back to your current position.
- Tap the 'pan' button bottom right, and then pan and zoom. While you are in panning mode the map won't jump back.

Your answer also suggests that the ‚normal‘ intuitive handling with just using the fingers to pan and zoom doesn‘t work while navigating, right? Is this due to technical limitations using carplay API or does it work as designed? Just for my curiosity.
(and i‘m still using Scenic with great pleasure!)

Quote from Guido on 08.08.2022, 14:44This works as designed. Typically, when navigating, you want your current location staying centered. This is also how it works on the phone (where a double tap gesture is required to go into editing/panning mode). Waze (on phone at least) works similar.
Then there's also CarPlay limitations. Only for CarPlay system that have a touch screen it is possible to pan while not in panning mode (through a touch and drag). Systems without touch (with a joystick or similar hardware control) can only rely on the panning button to activate panning mode.
