Wetter in 4.24

Hallo Guido,

4.24 sieht super aus. Klasse 👍

Eibe Frage habe ich, wie funktioniert das mit dem Wetter!

Hierzu finde ich nichts.

That is not integrated (yet). For now, it requires another app called “Weather on the Way” to be installed. More info in Settings > Integration & Accessories.

If you're enjoying Scenic and are happy with the support, please leave a nice rating in the App Store. It would mean a lot to me ❤️

Hallo MjK,

dankeschön,

leider bin ich nicht bei Facebook.

Hallo Karlchen, @karlchen
hier der Text:
As I got a lot of questions regarding the new integration from Scenic v4.24 and Weather on the Way, here some quick thoughts - following the theme:
a ride is not only the scenic route you take, but also as good as the weather conditions allow you enjoying it:
1) Lockig for a proper Weather app also being capable of CarPlay, you end up finding a handful.
But only Weather on the Way not only includes great radar screens to provide you with optimal current weather information, but often even more important, it supports your planning activity by providing a full seven day forecast (pro version) of the weather conditions along your specific route. Check out all features at https://weatherontheway.app/
2) To make this all work hand in hand, first of all you need to have Scenic upgraded to v4.24.
With that version Senic will automatically detect if Weather on the Way is installed on your iPhone and if so, Scenic will automatically add the direct link to the 3 dot menu for every route in your folders.
So no longer fiddling around with GPX exports/Imports/updates alike - simply plan your route as usual in Scenic or at least have it in your scenic folders.
As soon you are ready for a concrete schedule of your tour, select your route in scenic, so you have the most up to date route and select the Weather on the Way button.
3) Weather on the Way will exactly take your route, check all weather conditions and show you a current radar screen overview. If you want to pre-check for the next seven days, simply take a swipe and shift the departure time along and with that see how the weather conditions will potentially change along your route.
This perfectly allows you to find the best time of departure to make most out of your advenuture.
4) as we all want to make a coffee or lunch break, have a look at sightseeing spots and have planed all those stops in scenic already, Weather on the Way lets you also add your estimated pause time to those stops, as this potentialy impacts also your weather conditions along your ride.
5) take an even more detailed view, with the riding slider and see how the predicted radar potentially will change as you travel.
6) as soon you are happy with your tour and the potential break times set, you can save the route in Weather on the Way and even give it an individual name for easer recognition later on
This steps will all help to have done an optimal preparation for your ride.
6) now on the time you want to go for a ride activate your ride on Scenic for navigation and either if you had last minute changes to your route, use the Weather on the Way Link to send the latest route to Weather on the Way or simply activate the saved route in Weather on the Way and also there select Go Now.
7) Quick word on Battery consumption .. as its the same Apple location service both apps use for the GPS information, additional power consumption of both apps is minimal and neglegtable.
8 if you have your iPhone additionally mounted to your CarPlay, you could use Scenic as usual on your CarPlay display, and now Weather on the Way Timeline as your main iPhone screen .. this will give you optimal insights an also warnings if weather ahead along your route may change and if it does both apps in conjunction will allow you to decide for the best detour to avoid the real bad weather conditions

Although I appreciate @guidomm efforts to kick off the basic integration with the Weather on the Way app, it would be much more practical if real-time weather could be displayed directly on Scenic Maps. This would eliminate the need to switch between two separate apps for navigation and weather.

Agreed, but with all the other priorities Guido has, i must admit I am more than happy to have this kind of integration, especially for planning purposes.

there is actually no other solution out there, providing such tight play.

And while riding, you dont even have to switch between both apps, as if weather changes or significant situations would happen on your route, you would get a popup notification automatically over the scenic nav screen (simple iOS feature).

but again a live radar weather overlay in scenic would definitely a perfect thing. It would not address the planning phase so.

I’m absolutely not so sure that the weather on the screen would have looked that good. If there’s a lot of rain, this is a dark image, and the background (the map) will be difficult to read.
I’ve been following this forum for quite a while, and if Guido had allowed even half of the good suggestions for icons directly on the screen to do things, we simply wouldn’t have been able to see the map.
So I think that adding more to the screen than what’s already there today is a bad idea.
