MyRadar works on CarPlay.
Hi,
I am using both „MyRadar Pro" as well as „OnTheWay" since quite a while on the iPhone as well as on CarPlay.
In general to be present on CarPlay any weather app needs to have some kind of navigation integrated - otherwise Apple does not allow the CarPlay function to be used and rejects the AppStore presents of the app, hence why there are not so many apps out there.
- MyRadar
- has a beautiful moving radar screen on the iPhone showing a short history to current of cloud / weather movement - this movement also indicates the direction the weather is developing
- unfortunately this movement is not reflected on the CarPlay screen, there it just shows the last current cloud state.
- Same for an weather alarm for the current region you are in - works on the iPhone, push does not go through to CarPlay

- OnTheWay
- does not have any movement on the radar, but indicates the direction by showing arrows on the map.
- It does have a much nicer and cleaner radar screen and is super accurate.
- A key benefit is the import of a Scenic GPX file. OnTheWay will calculate the estimated time of arrival at the stops along the route and provides a nice overview whats the weather like at the time you will arrive, very handy.
- You even can define a 7 day advance departure time - it will help finding the best time to ride by dynamically show the respective weather scenario along the route.
- Routes can be saved for future use
- Using Scenic as the main navigation app, OnTheWay navigation could be activated in the background, so whenever the weather screen is activated (iphone as well as CarPlay) OnTheWay is on your spot and can help not only with the radar screen, but as well with the timeline of the remaining route what’s to be expected ahead.
- A group guide can also easily share those timelines to help everyone be prepared.
Personally I prefer OnTheWay over MyRadar in the meantime and I just would love a better/smoother integration between Scenic and OnTheWay, like simpler route sharing or more advanced, based on OnTheWay weather conditions, a re-route suggestion by Scenic ...
I know this is not a priority and many may not need it, but using both apps in parallel does not kill the battery (iPhone location service leveraged by multiple apps is minimal battery impact) but kept me pretty dry - especially in the mountains just re-routing to another valley keeps the rain away. But an integrated way preferably weather provided by Scenic itself or with one click on a second screen, would not only provide more important information for a ride, but increase the safety tremendous

@karlchen - just one more info, as it’s a nice way using both apps at the same time - if you have both devices (CarPlay + iPhone) insight at the same time - not necessarily on the bike, rather in the car :
while you run scenic on the CarPlay display, switch the black scenic screen to the OnTheRoad app - when you have loaded there the same route, you see the naming of the different spots as well as expected arrival time (matches pretty much the time scenic is calculating) and highlevel wether. By tapping a spot on the iPhone you want to know more the gray popup shows even more details.
This does not directly help yet to identify a reroute, but is super helpful if at all something needs to be considered.
but how much cooler would it be if similar weather info with an weather overlay on top of Scenic would be reality - definitely something to top up the premium subscription
