Weather and traffic warnings along route while travelling and planning from internet
Quote from Rsz on 08.10.2022, 04:42Hi
first of all I gotta say what an amazing job you guys have done ! I have tried all the motorcycle nav apps all of them a few times , for me anyways by far scenic is my favourite …you guys have just done such an amazing job on your app. It really shows you the creators are also riders and are in tune with what makes a great motorcycle nav app ! Thanks for this software it’s the best and I make sure and tell everyone!
so my suggestion is to have integrated weather and traffic warnings …could be both in the route planner and while en route …say you are designing a route to somewhere the app goes and checks and warns you of a weather warning at a particular point and or traffic jam accident closed road etc..
then while you are actually navigating maybe scenic could intermittently check the internet for any road problems or weather events along your route and warn you of what you are headed into…maybe suggest an alternate detour that you could accept to route you around the problem …would be super helpful !
what’s that crazy app that is not really for motorcycles just for doing things It makes a movie of your route over a map that you can export when your done ..I reckon that kind of feature would be popular aswell ..
I have no idea how difficult any of these ideas would be to implement or if they would be even possible …but I think everyone would like them in the end and it would make scenic stand out even more from the others !
those neat new clip on hud devices coming out that we all are going to want one of ..team up with one of that lot to have scenic the official built in nav feature !
I also enjoy the rating thing you have where it logs your distance driven and ranks you ..kind of fun and even motivates me to ride at times ..get that ranking up hahah that was a good idea ..I’m 163 in australia but have only had the app like 7 or 8 months now ..tye guys at the top of the list are like 147 k hahah that will take a few years to match lol
again amazing job your app is the best by far !
Cheers
Rob

Weather and traffic have been on the feature request list for a long time. I’m migrating Scenic to the new HERE map framework during fall/winter. This is also the perfect opportunity to add things like this. Traffic has been requested a lot more than weather so that will have priority. When time permits I’ll add weather as well.

I think you mean Relive https://www.relive.cc
Integration with that is also on the list, but lower prio. I Agee it’s very nice though
clip on hud devices
Yeah. I have been following this space and the ‘smart helmet’ space for quite some years. It’s still very fragmented at the moment though. There needs to be a standard so that all apps can work with all those HUDS and smart helmets. I believe some HUDS already work as a CarPlay unit. That would be a good development in my opinion. I’m going to wait a little bit more with this.

another way you and your motorcycle App stand out from the crowd …you get on and actually reply to peoples comments ! Very quickly at that ! Try this on some other motorcycle app forums , you are lucky if you ever get a reply or acknowledgement of what you wrote ! Kudos and thanks to you for your amazing app and being awesome mate !
Really looking forward to the new features as they come out ! You have a fan for my riding life here ! You ever need any beta testing help or whatever from users etc let me know more than happy to help out anyway I can…

I tried to like Rob's comment many times, but all it did was repeatedly toggle my single like on and off. I was thinking of creating some new user ID's so I could add likes, but that seemed a bit excessive...

This is a feature Garmin advertised for their zumo and devl nav units. But I never saw it working in Germany - even with their Advanced Weather subscription.
Also I think there might be other apps better suited for this. E.g. Rain Alarm (their app, not their website) lets you configure alerts for when rain clouds are nearby. It will then check the weather radar every 10 minutes and show a notification if you might get wet soon.

Quote from Guido on 07.11.2022, 20:16Yeah. It’s pretty difficult to implement and depends on how the weather / rain data is provided. A relatively simple, but less automated way, would be to display the rain clouds on the map, like main rain radar apps do. I think that will be the first step for Scenic.

Quote from mbirth on 08.11.2022, 15:51Food for tought: I've just found screenshots from my Garmin zumo and it actually has 2 different weather views:
I don't know where you'll get your weather data from, but apart from showing rain/snow clouds Scenic could also warn of (potentially) icy roads when the temperature is lower than 3 ℃. Or strong winds. But then: That's what weather apps are for.
IMHO the important feature for me would be a warning when I'm heading right into a rain cloud so I can find shelter or find somewhere to put on my rain gear while it's still dry.

Quote from ronin-on-vulcan on 29.01.2023, 15:19I would add +1 to the weather feature along the route.
InRoute actually did a great job of creating extra panels below the map during the planning phase to show expected temperature, precipitation levels, winds etc.
Super useful.
Will be looking forward to it.

I was able to find a temporary solution for now that allows me to take a GPX route from Scenic and see weather conditions along the route with 2 clicks - it's a free Epic Ride Weather app (not associated with the author).
- Install Epic Ride Weather from the app store
- On iOS - Go to scenic -> routes -> Export GPX
- In the list of available destinations scroll to the right and choose Epic Ride Weather
- The app will open the GPX file
- You can select departure time and average speed
- Click on the button and the app will create a number of graphs with temperature, precipitation, wind estimates
Not an ideal solution, but at least it is free and you get pretty accurate weather forecast.
Hope this helps.
