Try doing a "pull-to-refresh" in the route list.

From navigation mode? Tap the red 'recording' button bottom left, and choose, Stop Ride.
4 I keep getting the "close" button with a sliding gradient ?
The menu will automatically close after the gradient reaches the end. This is to prevent unnecessary screen interaction while driving/riding. You can change the timing of that in Settings > Navigation & Tracking > Menu auto-close time.
