Using Scenic on a 4 week roadtrip. Some issues I came across.
Quote from peer234@icloud.com on 26.09.2021, 14:59Hello I know scenic 3 is on its way and I hope some issues I came across will be addressed in scenic 3. But I want to share some issues anyhow.
First of all I like scenic a lot and I see it as a road to ‘perfection’ .on my 4 week trip from the Netherlands through the alps to Italy and back, I run into some issues like:
- Rerouting is being triggered too fast. Slightest mistake or stop for a coffee triggers rerouting. That brings is to problem number 2
- Automatic rerouting is too drastic it alters the route too much. Sometimes 1/3 of the route is altered. I tried routes with lots of waypoints and minimal waypoints still too drastic.
- in route mode I am able to zoom but not to pan. This way Otis difficult to see what the app has done in rerouting or exploring the route further.
- in creating a route the map doesn’t shows POI on the map
- When comparing maps between apps while making a route. The map of the scenic app goes back to where you are located instead that it stays where you are working. Thus a constant scrolling back to the route.
- There is no live update on the road conditions (blocked through roadwork or traffic jam) that triggers rerouting and brings us to problem number 2.
Some possible additions
- map with reliefs would be great.
- More information on the map like; restaurants, coffeeshops, parks etc.
Good luck with scenic 3 and keep up the good work.
greetings
Peer

Quote from Aososki on 26.09.2021, 15:53I agree re roadworks/closures traffic, I lost about 90 minutes today in Wales because it tried to take me down a road that is closed until Dec 21 and then down roads with 5 mile traffic jams. I love Scenic, I just paid for lifetime premium yesterday partly because I thought the Google Maps in premium would add live traffic and roadworks. I hope this may come in Scenic 3! When I tried to follow detour from road closure Scenic kept trying to take me back to the closed road.

GuidoRerouting is being triggered too fast. Slightest mistake or stop for a coffee triggers rerouting.
Should be better in Scenic 3. It's a tricky one though. Sometimes (e.g. when you accidentilly took a wrong turn) you want it to recalculate as quickly as possible.
Automatic rerouting is too drastic it alters the route too much. Sometimes 1/3 of the route is altered.I tried routes with lots of waypoints and minimal waypoints still too drastic.
Scenic 3 will have more settings / options to customize detour behaviour to your liking.
in route mode I am able to zoom but not to pan. This way Otis difficult to see what the app has done in rerouting or exploring the route further.
Default behaviour is for Scenic to keep your position centered. You can pan if you go to edit mode (double tap the map). In Scenic 3 you will automatically go to 'edit' mode if you start panning.
in creating a route the map doesn’t shows POI on the map
Will be resolved in Scenic 3
When comparing maps between apps while making a route. The map of the scenic app goes back to where you are located instead that it stays where you are working. Thus a constant scrolling back to the route.
You mean when Scenic goes to background and then back to foreground gain? I will check that out. Which screen are you on when you do this? The Route Editor? Or the Start Screen?
There is no live update on the road conditions (blocked through roadwork or traffic jam) that triggers rerouting and brings us to problem number 2.
With the new map provider in Scenic 3, traffic info becomes a possibility. Will not be in Scenic 3 from the beginning though. Can't name a date on that yet.
Some possible additions
- map with reliefs would be great.
- More information on the map like; restaurants, coffeeshops, parks etc.
Scenic 3 offers some of this. Let me know what you think once Scenic 3 is out.
Good luck with scenic 3 and keep up the good work.
Thanks 🙂

Should this happen again, try the 'Road Block' button in the navigation menu. At least then it won't try to send you back to the closed road all the time.

In route edit mode. I’m going back and forth from other apps to scenic for information while I work on the route.
