Tutorial

Hi Guido

I have now got a iPad and pen to try plan route etc easier than on my phone or importing them from basecamp and have scenic change them, especially off road routes, so I have some questions.

  1. If I import a gpx file including the blue track and the route is different from the original track can I manipulate the route on scenic by dragging the route or is the route and can't be changed?
  2. If it can't be changed which I am thing will be the case can I draw a route over the top of the track?
  3. If I can draw over the track how would I do that.
  4. As much as I can follow a track I would like the voice directions as I makes life easier when concentrating on the road surface etc,

Thanks in advance

GB

Hi GB,

Yea, you can manipulate the track, but not by ‘drawing’, only by adding, moving or deleting waypoints.

For off-road routes, and it won’t let you take a specific dirt road, changing the routing mode to bicycle might help. (Like in the example GPX you sent me earlier)

Here is a tutorial video of the power planner. It still displays the old version of Scenic, but it looks very similar and has the same functionality: https://scenic.app/help/power-planner-tutorial/?seq_no=2

Let me know if you have any further questions after that.

best regards,

Guido

Hmmmmm... I don't imagine it's easily (or even not easily) workable, but I'm suddenly imagining a large screen, like a computer (or big ipad) with an area of map showing, and using a mouse or trackpad-pointer (or stylus, or even a finger, for a touch screen) and just dragging from a start point to an end point to draw a line along any path you want to ride, and then having Scenic throw together an actual route, using roads as close as possible to the drawn line - within the limits of the route type and preferences you desire...

A girl can dream, can't she?

That’s kind of how basecamp works but when I send to scenic it changes that so now I’m trying to plan my routes in scenic so it doesn’t get the chance to change it.

I didn't know that...

Yep that’s exactly why I plan in MyMaps and import it.

They all work well until it comes to offroad routing. Then the routes start to change.

More help needed Guido, downloaded routes from BBR app which are road routes but scenic still reroutes them, how can I stop this its so frustrating Can you add an option to not reroute imported routes.

Sorry, no. Read this to understand how this works and why import from different sources (who use their own routing algorithms and map data), can render different results in Scenic: https://scenic.app/help/strange-loops/

It’s quite a read but worth it to truly understand the difficulty in this and how to work around this.

Maybe another way to explain this.

I’m imagine this:

- I know a great route.
- I only tell you key points to pass
- I do not tell you to take short, fast or curvy roads.

Now, Imagine I am a BBR (or any) GPX file, and you are Scenic.

How can you (Scenic) know which roads to take between the key points?

I understand what you are saying  I think but you import the track as well so is there no way to force a “fix route to track” option. Sorry haven’t read the article yet.

At the moment, no, IF you want turn by turn instructions. There might be another way which I still need to look into as I explained in the other thread.

Thanks Guido, I like it when you say “not at the moment”
