Too late instructions to follow

Hi Guido,

Just had a bike trip this afternoon using 4.10 : very desappointed, finished back home with TomTom AmiGO free version !

I missed 3 times the road, not able to  see accurately where I was on the map, and what road I was supposed to take, and ultimately each time getting the info "turn !" just  meters after the road is passed : too late ! happened both in villages (speed about 50 km/h), and in countryside, speed close to limititaion 90 km/h .

I closed Scenic and opened TomTom Amigo, and get info at the right time, and got well positionned on the map also !

Scenic , as a motorbike GPS, should be even quicker and more accurate than any other "standard" GPS, as you move quicker (you do motorbike so you know) and need even more anticipation; 4.10 is not it

I already reported that we are positionned on the map too much below the actual position, so that when you pass a bridge on the map, you actually have passed it quite 100 meters behind you ; it's the same phenomena, leading to not being able to be directed accurately with the GPS

Lots of features is good but bottom line priority is the functionning

I understand, and I'm investigating and working on improving. Could you tell me what kind of route you were navigating? Specifacally how many via points and stops? Also... could you post some screenshots of your detour behaviour setting (Settings > Navigation & Tracking > Detour behaviour). I suspect that both these things impact the delay in the map and instructions. Thank you.

Giving you more information , Guido

My tour was in the countryside of East of France , triangle Belfort/Montbeliard/Lure, so it's mostly countryside roads, you're alone on the small curvy roads, mostly w/o line;  50 km given for 1H27, 23 via points (automatic) ; no change at all on the proposed path , take as it was.

Round trip created by the application, not completely followed , the application recalculating very quickly.

I always change the path , not following the initial path given, and expect the application to nonetheless behave "normally" . From the beginning of the trip I experienced that I was still not positionned accurately on the map, always below the actual.

  • 1st issue in a village "Chagey", I was expected to turn left, missed the cross, realize too late that it was there, made a turn across the road afterwards to take the right road, less than 50 km/h ;

According to the previous path, I was not expected to be there, as I changed intentionnally the path 6 km before, and path had been already recalculated far before the turn. But it's std use of a GPS I guess

  • 2nd issue on the road "departementale " D9, speed at +- limit 90km/h, missed the cross to "Le Vernoy", expected to turn right, option proposed too late, made a U-turn in an alley left just after
  • 3rd issue on a village, "Aibre", same, advised too late, the road was not visible , the GPS  gave the option too late,  I was waiting for the system to tell me, was at 30 kmh, knowing perfectly this time where to turn, and the GPS gave me the info when I reached the point; even at 30 I'd have been too late

Detour Behaviour : recommanded

OK. Thanks for the additional details. I'll investigate further.

I'm not sure I'm quite on topic, but I have also found the app a bit slow. I don't know how that could be changed, but this past fall, I had a miserable time around the Rome airport, Fiumicino, and no kidding, I circled around for an hour because I missed turns. Whether it was a zoom setting issue or not, I can't say, but in complex road situations you can still be going 90 or 110 kph (this is Italy, remember) and so the zoom setting is set to be 'zoomed out'. And then you don't get the detail you need in time to get into the correct lane.

I don't know the solution, but the responsiveness is a legit concern. That said, I don't know of any other app that is better.

Yes. This is my number one priority at the moment. Hope to get this fixed in v4.12. (v4.11 was released today).

Hello Guido,

Hope 4.12 will ultimately close this "delay" issue !

FYI I tried with the new 4.11 magic button "extrapolate position" : still not sufficient (seems a bit better but far not enough) if you consider only the "delay", but with a position on the map quite never on the road, and when changing direction it puts you on the field, far from the road, past path showing S, not a line, you don' t know where the GPS understand you are, therefore direction given is not trustable.

Button OFF is still showing the "standard" behaviour with delay, finally better than with button ON .

Thus waiting for the 4.12 !

Hi everyone

I just wanted to raise that topic, but others have the same issues.
Especialy in towns I remarked, that scenic "believes" much too long, that I am on the correct route, although I am far away from the point shown on the screen. Then scenic recognizes that I took another route, then it recalculates the new route. With such a delay, it's almost impossible to find the useful route.
It becomes then supertricky, when I change to a differnt direction then scenic proposes after recalculation, so I am away from scenic's new route …
I hope you find a fast solution for that
