The big Phone Mounting topic

Quote from Guido on 14.12.2020, 09:11I'm a Quad Lock user myself and on the blog I've written an article on the Quad Lock Moto Mount Kit and the Motorcycle Wireless Charging Head, and an article on the Quad Lock vibration dampener.
These are just my experiences though. As everyone has different bikes, different phones and different mounting setups, it makes sense to share our experiences here... especially regarding camera stabilisation modules getting damaged by vibrations.
So please, if you have experiences, add them here. Add pictures to show your setup, mention what mounts/accessories you have and how it's been doing so far (pros and cons).

Quote from MannyEric on 16.12.2020, 00:45I'm using SP connect. Pretty much the same as Quadlock. So far very happy with it. It's very solid.
At the moment I'm using an old iPhone SE which is used only for navigation and I have no idea if the camera is damaged or not.
Since my Africa Twin has Apple CarPlay I plan to start using my main phone (iPhone 8) and ordered an antivibration module as well just to be sure. Previous bike on the photo...

Quote from RAPARay on 16.12.2020, 11:26Hi, Newbie here..... Looks like an awesome forum! I'm about to purchase the Quad Lock 1" Ball Adapter Motorcycle Kit (link below). I'll be using this for motorcycling & snowmobiling. I'd like to know if the Vibration Dampner (link below) will be able to attach to this kit due to having the RAM ball mount? If so, how would it mount? I'd sincerely appreciate your input if you have this setup. Thanks, Ray

Quote from Guido on 16.12.2020, 11:32I'm about 99% sure it will. It will go in between the ball and the blue mount. Like so
Without the dampener, the blue mount screws into the ball. With the dampener the dampener will screw in the hole where the blue mount used to screw into... and the blue mount will screw onto the dampener.
If you want to be 100% sure...best to ask Quad Lock.

Quote from RAPARay on 16.12.2020, 15:06I'd like to add, I also emailed Quad Lock about their shipping status in the USA due to the following found on the USA site under Covid 19 next to the checkout basket;
USPS are currently experiencing scanning and shipping delays due to high demand. We are currently delivering to all other regions. Please use a residential address. Deliveries to business addresses may not be completed.
I asked them if the shipping issue has cleared up yet for me to place an order. 🤔

Quote from CB1100_Tom on 17.12.2020, 06:59Hi,
it's Christmas! My ordered parts arrived today. Only the knuckle adapter is not the part I ordered. It looks way different to the part you can see on the picture in the post above.
My delivered adapter contains one plastic part with two tiny screws and I don't know how to mount it between the base handlebar mount and the Quad Lock head...

This is what I expected.
I already sent Quad Lock a mail with pictures. For the beginning I can mount the parts I have and see how looks like.

Quote from CB1100_Tom on 17.12.2020, 09:58Well,
it's done. I mounted it without the knuckle adapter an it looks well. Already had a small ride and there wasn't any vibration I could feel.
Wireless charger is conntected to the ignition, so I can't forget to switch off the charger.

There ist one thing that disturbes me. When I mounted the case to my iPhone the display protection was lifted at the edges, because the case is so tight around the corners. First I thought I didn't put on the protection glass exactly in the middle. Then I used another glass and it was the same. The corners were lifted by the case. So I ruined two glasses now.
Guido, are you using any protection on your 12 pro display? If yes, what kind? I guess I have to look for a protection glass which is slightly smaller on the egdes.

Quote from dasherpr on 18.12.2020, 16:33+1 on the Quadlock vibration attenuator and charger. I also have those mounted, on the top bar of my GS, where the nav cradle used to be, and they work fine. For anyone thinking this is a silly add-on, I had to replace my iPhone XS camera right after a 10-day trip through the Mojave desert and California coast, as the camera had stopped focusing well. Back then I had the iPhone mounted to the mirror with the normal Quadlock mount, and I think the vibration was the culprit. This is good insurance.

Nice setup Thomas. I don't use any glass protection on my iPhone. Never have to be honest. I think the gorilla glass is very strong by itself. Never had any problems nor scratches, but I do take care not to put my telephone in my pocket with my keys and such.

Quote from Guido on 23.12.2020, 17:35Here's my Quad Lock setup on my new bike (KTM 1290 Super Adventure R):

I bought a cheap GPS mounting bar of AliExpress, which mounts to the screen. On the bar I attached the QuadLock using the standard handlebar mount. On the mount I have the Quad Lock vibration dampener and on top of that I have the Quad Lock Motorcycle Wireless Charging head (not the car one).
As you can see this whole construction sticks out quite a bit, and as you can imagine it vibrates a lot more than the setup on my previous bike (directly to the handlebars in stead of the screen) due to the longer 'arm'.
However, I have now ridden almost 1500 km with this setup and so far no damage to my phone. I believe this is because of the vibration dampener. Even though I can see the windscreen vibrating quite a bit at higher speed, the phone stays relative still. Not as still as it did on my old bike with the old setup, but still readable at every speed.

looks good too. So you're also using your iPhone in landscape mode, that's interesting.
That might help get more options in Scenic 3, like positioning info-menues individually. Or hiding theses infos if not needed during routing.
Can't wait to see how Scenic 3 looks like 🙂

Quote from CB1100_Tom on 14.04.2021, 12:36Hi,
you just have to remove the Centre screw from the mount. Then you’ll be able to separate the two parts and change the blue lever.
After changing the lever screw the parts together...finished.

Quote from dstnrgrs on 15.04.2021, 09:06Just to share what I’ve been using since Sept 2019 after I discovered the Scenic app. At the time I couldn’t find any reasonably priced wireless charging mounts, but I admit I’m a cheapskate and also enjoy DIY projects, so I made my own. I have an iPhone 8, so no image stabilization issues. I ran this mount on my Vstrom and even transferred it to my DR650 for a 500 mile gravel/off-road ride. The mount held up superbly and kept my phone battery charged up nicely. The only change I’ve made since this video is to extend the wiring from the charging coil to the circuit board and waterproof it better with some adhesive lined heat shrink tubing.

I’ve since created a similar mount that snaps directly to the handlebars of my DR650 and rests atop the handlebar clamps. I’ve been over some very rough terrain and it’s held up well with no issues.
