Switching route while continuing logging
Quote from ogroggo on 21.08.2022, 02:41Is there any way, when navigating a route, to switch to another route while continuing the logging, so without first saving the already logged part of the first route? I coul not find it. If I stop navigating a route, without saving, I can search for and select a location and navigate there, continuing the logging. But I cannot find a way to to select another planned route to navigate
Situation that often happens to me: overestimated or underestimated the duration of a planned route and then want to switch to (part of) another ple-planned route, while keeping the logging for that day all in one file.

- select pause
- select go to main screen
- select another route or destination
-start navigation again
the logging will not be interupted and continues

I never pauze the navigation manually anymore. Never noticed the ‘return to mainscreen’ option.

Inability to find this had been bothering me. Also never seen 'return to main screen' as never manually pause.

Anyone knows where I can get there now.
Same reason: stop navigating one route and continue with another or with a freeride, without stopping the log.

Quote from Guido on 14.04.2025, 06:10In Scenic 4 this works different now, because in Scdnix 4 you have access to the complete functionality of the power planner during navigation:
- Move map slightly to go to overview/edit mode
- Tap “edit route” mode
- Now you can edit the route as you like, or select a new route (use the search button), or clear the entire route.

Thanks Guido,
I will try that, hopefully this will reduce my the number of tracks which I have to connect manually after a ride.

Daher meine Frage.

Great job. Thank you

Quote from Guido on 17.04.2025, 19:55I wish this was possible too in CarPlay, but unfortunately it is not. Editing a route by selecting markers on the screen is simply not possible on a CarPlay display. Apple limits the user interaction with the screen to the bare minimum that would be “safe” during a navigation session. The use interaction is limited to pre-determined buttons and gestures.
Technically this means that apps do not get any feedback as to where the screen is touched except for the “template” buttons.
If you’d like a bit more info about this, have a look at the below help article. It covers the use of a remote controller, so it’s not really about this topic in essence, but it does explain the limitations of CarPlay in more detail: https://scenic.app/help/handlebar-controllers/

Hello Markus,
this is an international Forum, not German or Frankonian, thats why yout get an english answer.
I use Scenic and my aim is at the end if a riding day to have just one track instead of three or four per day. You are right, I can use a Garmin Watch for tracking or any other app but why should I? I prefer to have just one app instead of using several apps because this leads to the human error which you explains.
I use Quo Vadis since more than twenty years to collect my GPS Tracks and to plan my tours. With that t is also possible to merge tracks but nevertheless it is a pain in the butt to send 3-4tracks per day after a 3week vacation by mail and merge them on a daily basis. Those tracks are finally used to synchronise all my pictures and add a geotag to my pictures.
To me a navigation app should create always a track (no manual start) and at the end of a day I would like to have just one track of that day.
I often start w/o navigation or I just follow a track without navigation by zooming in and out, panning of the map and search for nice windy roads while riding. Sometimes I start with a planned route and recognize it is not what I wanted or it is too long or too short and ten I switch off navigation and with all that I always create a new track. At the end of a day I have toomany tracks which need to be send by mail and merge them on my PC…….not a big deal but if it can be done automatically, why should I spend time for it.
Regards
Thomas

I see Thomas, but not sure I fully follow .. the merge process will still be a manual process as you would need to select the individual segments of your day - regardless in scenic or the other app, where you send the result from scenic anyway - as you combine and integrtae all your prictures over in QuoVadis correct ...
The only way to really get this fully automated would be a configuration in scenic you activate and ideally scenic creates you a single combined track per day in addition to all individual files, as one may want not to integrate specific segments taken during the day ..
How do you manage gaps in recording ? is then a straight connection what you expect or an anticipated route between those ?
I agree with you it would be great if scenic would do all this in one - but where is my weather forecast, my hotel bookings, restaurant advisories or even sight seeing suggestions along my track .. all cool things to have - so that's why for me -something like a second independent tracker like a Garmin watch or an travel blog app like FindPinguins are exactly for this purpose to combine with other things like photos or ability to share my excitement of the tour
But thanks a million for sharing how you use scenic, different then I do, but definitely interesting - Thanks, Markus

Markus,
off course I expect Scenic to provide a combined track at the end of a day same as my Garmin GPS does or did and same as other apps do.
Why should there be a gap? If I am logging a full day there is no gap.
I also do not expect weather forecast or a hotel booking, thats something competely different, but navigating and tracking is something that belongs together to me since I startet with my first Garmin GPS II roughly 25 Years ago. If I want to book a hotel I use of course a different app but I do not want to use two apps to basically do the same thing.
