Status of GPS tracking data when starting/stopping a pre-saved route in the middle of a tracked ride
Quote from iSilentP on 09.04.2025, 08:49The way I have been using the app is to keep track of rides and at the end of the ride/day export the GPX file to import into another app to get some other ride statistics than the ones provided in scenic.
Using this method, at the end of the day, I export a single GPX file to analyze.
Recently I started to create and save Scenic routes which leds me to a question based on the scenario below...
1. Start Scenic
2. Start a ride (press on the 'Ride' button) to begin the day's ride and start Scenic's tracking mode
3. Ride for a while--hypothetically 20 miles.
4. I open "My Routes" and select a pre-saved route to follow
5. Scenic guides me through the route to the end point and the route has completed.
6. At this point I am _asssuming_ that the ride tracking that I started in step 2 continues to log the ride--even though the pre-saved route has completed
7. Later I continue to ride some more until I arrive to my day's final destination
8. I stop the ride and save it.
Is the assumption (step #6) above true and therefore I would be able to export the saved ride's GPX data that would include the complete ride from step2 until I stop/save the ride?

To select/change/remove a route during a tracking session, without ending that tracking sessions, move the map slightly and tap the "edit route" button. (You can use the search button there to select pre-saved routes).
Theoretically, you can also force close Scenic (swipe up through the app switcher). In that case tracking will stop while Scenic is closed. When you reopen Scenic you will be asked if you want to resume tracking. I do not recommend this. Better not to force quit Scenic during a tracking sessions.
