some minor observations / suggestions
Quote from WerBel on 17.08.2025, 04:07Hi Guido, hi all,
first, my very best congrats to Guido for having lifted Scenic to the next level with all the hazzle of having had to change map provider and so on!
Scenic is becoming my go-to app for all kinds of navigation purposes, not only bike riding but increasingly including hiking and cycling adventures (I see a huge potenital there) or just checking location with a city trip. I really very much appreciate the new map style, costumization options and in particular the level of detail and up-to-date accuracy is stunning.
While I'm using Scenic during navigation, my workflow often involves other applications for route planning. To be honest, I often use 'Kurviger' or 'Calimoto' to plan a motorcycle ride, export it as .gpx and import the ride into Scenic as I find Scenic's user interface, accuracy of the GPS position (in particular latency I found to be superior with Scenic) to be much better for my taste. I found the Scenic options for motorcycle riding a little bit limited but things might change when the beauty routing becomes available in Europe (is there a date yet?).
Recently, I've chosen the same approach for bike cycling and hiking, importing routes from apps like Komoot or Osmand. And it works quite nicely and as said before, I do like Scenic's map style, responsiveness of the app etc. much better as compared to these alternatives. I always export as tracks and insert additional via points as necessary (works great btw).
What could be improved here are the following issues:
- when importing a route, it uses the 'automobile standard' option for generating the route/connecting the via points in Scenic. Maybe it would be better to use the latest chosen routing style (e.g. curvy motorcycle routes)
- when planning a hiking route, I cannot insert via points on hiking trails (something that makes probably sense for motorcycle riding :)). Maybe you can allow insertion of via points for hiking trails (or depending on the routing style allow insertion of via points on hiking trails when in bicycle or hiking mode)
- When route planning, I use the add via button to automatically insert an additional via point. This often works flawlessly regarding the via position and # but sometimes the chosen # of the inserted via is plain wrong. Maybe an option can be implemented to select the # of the via that is to be inserted?
- during motorcycle navigation, I use a Zoom of 9.5 point in the velocity range of 70 - 110 km/h. This is because I would like to see the names of the next villages and sourrinding sites. However, it often happens, that the actual names of towns / villages are not showing up on the map or show up briefly and disappear again when e.g. road direction is changing (but other, to me minor important information such as parking areas, restaurants, tiny little farm names etc. appear). Maybe there is an option to prioritize showing of city/town/village names over other information?
- While it is possible to change the font size of cities / countries / bigger towns in the map customizer, this does not have any effect (i.e. changing their font sizes does not work). Maybe just a minor bug that needs fixation.
Anyway, these are some minor points and if time allows, would be great if these could be addressed within a next release. As said above, I think Scenic has a great potential for navigation purposes outside motorcycle riding.
Thanks again for your hard work!
Kind regards,
Werner

Thank you for your feedback and your suggestions. I'm happy that Scenic is working well for you. Here some responses from me:
..options for motorcycle riding a little bit limited but things might change when the beauty routing becomes available in Europe (is there a date yet?).
There is no date yet, sorry. I'm working on increasing the routing options for motorcycle riding. For both these things I am dependent on 3rd party provider though, so not entirely in my control.
when importing a route, it uses the 'automobile standard' option for generating the route/connecting the via points in Scenic. Maybe it would be better to use the latest chosen routing style (e.g. curvy motorcycle routes)
I could implement that. Or ask the user what vehicle to choose. I'll add it to the list.
when planning a hiking route, I cannot insert via points on hiking trails (something that makes probably sense for motorcycle riding :)). Maybe you can allow insertion of via points for hiking trails (or depending on the routing style allow insertion of via points on hiking trails when in bicycle or hiking mode)
Could you perhaps give me an example of such a trail where Scenic is not letting you add a via point? (A GPS coordinate of that trail)? I'm asking because it should let you add a via point if that trail is marked as accessible for hiking / biking respectively. It might be a map error, but would have to see an example.
When route planning, I use the add via button to automatically insert an additional via point. This often works flawlessly regarding the via position and # but sometimes the chosen # of the inserted via is plain wrong. Maybe an option can be implemented to select the # of the via that is to be inserted?
This already exists. If you long-press the via # or stop # button Scenic will let you choose the via point after which the new via point should go.

I can not reproduce this. It works when I change the font size for these labels. Could you double check? If you can't get it to work, could you share the ID of your custom map style? (see here how: https://scenic.app/forum/topic/scenic-4-custom-map-styles/#postid-12240)

--> here is an example: it seems via points can be inserted (something I seem to have missed last time) but the routing is transferred to the nearest accessible road; unfortunately, I didn't find a way how to download the gps coordinates but if you tell me how to do that in Scenic, I can certainly let you know the coordinates
