Skip Via/Stop

In the NAVI NERD DETAILS there’s “Skip Via/Stop Choice” & “ a slider for default. I really cannot find a good explanation about these. I’d really like to know what they do, and how best to use them... Appreciate any help!

Have you tried the 'Navi Nerd Settings Explanation' row? That should open safari to this support article: https://scenic.app/knowledge-base/navi-nerd-settings-explanation/

Yes, that’s all the information that I could find. I don’t quite understand the functionality. That is precisely why I’m reaching out... If there is any further info anywhere, or if it is somehow easily explained, I’d be grateful. I wish to use the app to its fullest potential, and this seems to be a head-scratcher for me.

OK. So, one of the differences between Scenic and other main stream navigation apps is that you can create routes with many stops/via points. These both help in forcing the route to take the roads you want, and not just the fastest or shortest way between Start and Destination.

A stop is basically the same as a via point, with one exception. For stops you get alerts when you get close to them during navigation. For vias you don't. In fact, with Via Point Pro mode OFF (more on that below) you won't even see via points on the map, only stops. Stops are typically places where you actually want to stop along the way, like that lunch place, or a gas station, or that famous vantage point with that beautiful view. Vias are meerly placed to force the route to take a road you want.

As you might imagine, having a route with many via points / stops also influences detour behaviour. In a normal navigation app (A to B), when you take a wrong turn, the route is just recalculate to get to B the fastest from that point onward. Scenic is different, because, Scenic wants to keep you on that Scenic route.. it wants to make you hit all the via points and stops, otherwise you'll miss big parts of the route you so carefully planned.

Now, knowing this, go to Settings > Navigation & Tracking and then look at the description for 'Detour Behaviour' and 'Via Point Pro Mode'. After that, I believe the description for the Navi Nerd Settings will also make more sense.

If not already done so, also have a look at the detailed tutorial video on the support page. It's very long, but it has timestamps for subject where you can skip to.
