Screen Display in Routes Folder and When Navigating.

Hi Guido,

I couple of questions, or requests related to the screen display. Apologies for two questions in one thread, but they are both graphical and I hope that reduces your time in responding.

First, in any of the saved Routes folders, or the Favorites folder, the box below the 'search routes' box is quite large and stays on the screen. This effectively cuts off a third of the screen where I would like to see the actual routes. For me, ideally this box with 'add route' and 'actions' would scroll away or be something that comes up when the darker folder icon at the top right of the screen is pressed. First two images show this.

Secondly, when navigating, at least on the iPhone, there are two things that I wish were different. First, the Arrow and distance box at the top left takes up quite a bit of screen area. I appreciate the large type and clarity (old eyes) but it does block the route and sometimes that has been a real problem; it depends on the zoom, but it can hide a curve or other info. It is also quite large on various Carplay displays, in cars and on my 7" Carpuride unit.

Secondly, at the bottom where we see the time and distance to destination (as I have it set up), the time remaining is obscured. Perhaps this is only in portrait mode, but that is the most useful for me on the bike. Here I see one hour and...... one minute? 59 minutes?  Is there any way to adjust the elements of this window so that the full display of time to destination/ waypoint is visible?

If there a setting that I need to adjust, forgive me.

Many thanks, and no rush.

Hi @zoomer. Thanks for the feedback, suggestions.

the box below the 'search routes' box is quite large and stays on the screen.

I'll see what I can do. Will add to list... not a priority item so will take some time.

the Arrow and distance box at the top left takes up quite a bit of screen area.

I've tried many sizes and positions in the past. What we currently have seems to be acceptable for most as I've not received much feedback on it (much less then with other previous iterations). This depends highly on
1) Personal preference
2) Screen size
3) Zoom level
4) Age of eyes 🙂
I'm going to leave this as is for now. What you could do, is adjust the zoom configuration so that the map is zoomed out more by default (Settings > Finetuning > Zoom Configuration)

quite large on various Carplay displays, in cars and on my 7" Carpuride unit.

I can't control this. This is managed by the CarPlay interface from Apple. I can change the arrow size (within limits), but the panel background and font size is fully determined by CarPlay.

the time remaining is obscured. Perhaps this is only in portrait mode, but that is the most useful for me on the bike. Here I see one hour and...... one minute? 59 minutes?

This is because (1) the smaller screen size of your iPhone and (2) looks like you increased font size in iOS settings. I can change it so that time remaining is mentioned first and that it reduces font size to fit everything, but that might make it too small to read. I'll make that change for the next update and you can tell me what you think. I can always change it back.

If you're enjoying Scenic and are happy with the support, please leave a nice rating in the App Store. It would mean a lot to me ❤️

Hi Guido,

All good points, thanks. Definitely no panic on any of this, so don't make it a priority at all. I agree with all your points, and #4 relates to your last very good observation. I do have some sort of zoom enabled on the phone. It affects a few other apps as well. I'll try setting that back to the default.  Again, no need to change this unless others feel it is worth trying.

Thanks

Number 4 is very easy to implement and won’t affect others that have bigger screen sizes and/or smaller font selected.

Sounds like an interesting solution to the problem, but with the current map data, remaining distances are usually correct but remaining time estimates can be way off.  Others who have smaller phones and find the much more reliable distance remaining data more useful might not prefer the change.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave...
