Scenic and Chigee AIO-5 Lite + BMW integration.

Greetings everyone, and All Glory to Guido!*

I've "finished" the installation of my Chigee AIO-5 Lite on a BMW K1600GT and Scenic works GREAT.  The integration with the left handlebar controller ("WonderWheel") using their Chigee CGRC CAN interface is very useful.

The BlindSpot monitor puts up a red alert-box over Scenic's display but doesn't interrupt Scenic navigation.  (The reason I purchased it.)  The WonderWheel integration is a little weird, it takes a little practice to deal with it's sensitivity.  But I don't have to take hands off the handle bars, nor do I need to keep treating my gloves with that special touch-sensitive stuff.

Chigee makes a mounting plate so that it will fit inside the old K1600 dashboard spot for the ^#&@$Garmin PoS.  It's ...challenging to fit, I needed 3 washers on each of the 4 screws to shorten them enough to eliminate interference.  But once bolted in, the fit is not terrible.  The screen is about 1/10th inch (2mm) too deep, and the Navigator V-VI dashboard opening is perfect for the screen, but covers up the flashing red LED.  (The dashboard opening for a Navigator IV will be too small.  2011-2016 owners, buy the bigger dash-opening part on eBay.)

The cameras are easy-ish to mount.  Front is under the headlight, held by 3M VBR tape.  The rear is screwed into the rear fender, by lowering the USian license plate bracket mounting to only it's lower two holes.  All the wires are adequate for the bike.  I don't know where you will get your 12vdc-switched signal, you do NOT want to do what I did.

The Chigee is more expensive than the Capuride I have replaced.  The Chigee is more reliable, my Capuride would OS-crash every ride.  Chigee support is very helpful, Vera was really patient with me.

This is not a beginner's project but it's not hard.  It does require removing the gas tank just to route the wiring in the best way.  10/10 I'd recommend it if you're ready to lose that stupid Garmin.

Hope this helps someone make a choice.

*That's a humorous reference to the USian animated series "Futurama" in which HypnoToad controls the minds of all around it, to say that.

  1. Bonjour BenHM3, serait-il possible d’avoir une capture d’écran de scenic pour voir à quoi ça ressemble? (En mode roulant)
  2. Merci [
