Scenic 3 Voice guidance cuts off syllables with BT com system
Quote from massi on 14.03.2022, 03:16Hi
I'm using Scenic 3 since a few days and everything is working nicely, except the voice guidance have some problems with my com system (Midland BT next). I tried with and without the signal tone, there are always the first one ore two syllables cut off, you hear something like "ert Metern abbiegen", "sverkehr dritte Ausfahrt".(I'm a german user)

Quote from Guido on 14.03.2022, 06:03Some com systems disconnect when not having received a sound for some time. (That’s some kind of battery saving feature). And then need to re-establish the connection when a sound plays.
Could that be the case here? You can test this by playing music as well. By playing music you prevent the com set from going in this ‘battery saving’ mode. Normally this is only a problem when connected through HFP (handsfree Bluetooth protocol) though. What is your setting for ‘Voice Output’ in Scenic?

Quote from massi on 14.03.2022, 08:47It seems to be a problem with my headset, I tried it with listening to music and the first bars are cut off also. So I have to look if I can setup something on my headset that it will work o.k.
Sorry for wasting your time.
One thing, will it be possible to make the size of the display of time, speed, etc. user adjustable in a future update, because I had some trouble to read it without glasses.:-/

Not at all. Here to help. I'm not sure it's a problem with your headset though. If music is playing and you hear the music, but still voice is cut off, there's something else going on. What is your setting for Voice Output? (Einstellungen > Navigation & Tracking > Sprachausgabe). I recommend to leave this on Device Default (Gerätestandard).
Regarding the flexible font size... the size currently depends on your device size. So, on bigger iPhones the font will be a bit bigger. Making it flexible sounds easy, but is actually quite a lot of work as you need to resize all kinds of visual elements with the font as well... resulting in more of the map being covered. So, I'm a bit reluctant to do that to be honest. Maybe in a next major update of Scenic. Hope you understand.
Best regards,
Guido

Quote from massi on 15.03.2022, 03:35Hi Guido,
The Voice Output is set to "Gerätestandard" (but it's under "Einstellungen->Sound&Haptik->Sprachausgabe";).
I did not test it until now with music playing in the background, I only tested it with a music app and there the problem occurs also, that the first bars of the music are cut off.
But I will make some more tests and report it to you, if you like.
About the flexible font size, I know this would not be easy to realize and it was only a suggestion, I understand that there other things be more important.

Quote from massi on 20.03.2022, 17:24I was on tour on the weekend and tested the voice guidance with background music. What should I say, nothing is cut off, it works as it should, but I don't like to hear music when riding with my motorcycle. So, have I to live with this problem or is there a solution to fix this?

Quote from Guido on 20.03.2022, 18:09Let me see if I can add a configuration option to add a long silence for instruction.
But honestly, I think this is a problem with your headset. It can not establish a connection in the time of the ‘attention’ tone and even cuts of some words. That means it takes maybe 1 second or longer to establish the connection. That is very long. Is there perhaps a setting on your headset? Maybe it goes into some kind of power saving mode? And maybe that can be disabled?

I fear there's no option, but I will look for it.
By the way, I never had this problem with my zumo 590, where I used this headset for about 20000km.

Quote from Guido on 21.03.2022, 04:02I imagine the Zumo keeps the connection alive even if there’s nothing to say for a longer period of time. Theoretically I could do this too with Scenic, but that is not allowed by Apple.
I’ll investigate the adding of a silence before the sound plays. Giving more time for the connection to build up.

Quote from massi on 21.03.2022, 08:22I had a look at the manual of the BT Next and the configuration app, unfortunately there's no power saving mode that can be disabled on my headset, so I hope, if you add a silence before the sound, this will help, thank you for your effort.

My workaround to this subject is:
Start your music e.g. Spotify and press pause.
Channel between phone and headset is open and you will here the instructions without delay.
Give it a try.

Quote from massi on 04.07.2022, 04:20Hi,
thanks, Guido, that you implemented the possibility to add a silence to the voice guidance. I set it to one second and now it works perfectly.
But there is a little problem left, the voice guidance volume is very low, even when I put the volume to the highest level. So at higher speeds I can't hardly understand the voice guidance. Are there any possibilties to get a higher volume level?
Kind regards
Marc-Antón

Same here. Voice volume is poor at higher speed.
My workaround: Works better while you hear music. Even when you pause music its loud and clearly.
Imho it has to do with the volume settings of the iPhone.
Giv it a try.

Quote from Guido on 04.07.2022, 08:23Hi Guys,
A new bug surfaced in version 3.09 and 3.10. Working on an upgrade to resolve it. This is probably what’s causing this.
working on a fix. Unfortunately I can’t do the silence anymore after the fix, it I’m hoping the delay will also be less. Perhaps turning on the ‘beep before instruction’ will be sufficient (where only the beep will be cut off).
will be releasing update this week if all goes well.
