Routing on specific Highway
Quote from rich_hdrk on 31.08.2022, 13:16If I am planning a route on a specific scenic highway (e.g. US 50), I would like a way to indicate to stay on US50 when planning a route. Is this a feature that exist, but I am unaware of?

Quote from Guido on 31.08.2022, 13:27Hi Rich,
Scenic already gives you turn by turn and voice navigation (if you are premium or used one of your free credits). Part of this turn by turn navigation is the road / highway you need to turn to, as text at the top of the screen. If you don't need to turn, you need to stay on the highway.Am I misunderstanding? Would you like more information while navigation? Like, lane guidance (which lane to ride on at interstate crossings?)Cheers,Guido
Hi Rich,
Quote from rich_hdrk on 31.08.2022, 14:04Let me give an example. I create a route from Sacramento CA (start) to Ely NV (end). When it automatically routes, it puts me on I80, but I want to ride US 50. To force the route to US 50, I dropped a Via x in South Lake Tahoe, CA on US 50 and that put the route on US 50 for the entire route. This is a simple example, as I routed further east it became a challenge to stay on US 50, especially in larger cities where I had to drop additional Via points to force the route to stay on US 50. It would be nice to have a feature under "Routine Options" to indicate to stay on a particular highway (if possible).

Quote from Guido on 31.08.2022, 14:20Ah... I understand what you mean now. Sorry for my misunderstanding.
I'm afraid that's not possible at the moment. The only way to force the routing to take certain roads is the combination of dropping via points and choosing the best routing mode and avoidances.
In this case you probably need to drop a few more via points to keep it on US 50.
Changing the routing mode might help to. For example, if you turn on "Avoid Highways" or maybe "Avoid Tolls" it will lead you off the highway. And, Fast routing will prefer highways a lot above smaller city roads, while short routing will just take the shortest route and doesn't even take speed into account during the route calculation.
Hope this helps/explains. If not or if you have other questions please let me know. Happy to help.
Best regards and ride safe,
Guido

Quote from rich_hdrk on 31.08.2022, 15:58I think this may be a nice feature in the future. As some day I may want to travel Route 66 from Los Angeles CA to Chicago IL
Another feature that would be nice when creating a route besides the highway is to indicate the number of miles you want to travel for the day/route and have the end point automatically set. It then can be adjusted to accommodations for the end.
Regards
RichPS: Love the Scenic app. I've recommended to may other riders.

Quote from Guido on 31.08.2022, 18:25Thanks Rich,
I'll add these to the list, but not sure I'll ever get around to it. The first one is definitely dependent on what the routing algorithm can support. This comes from a 3rd party and they are not supporting such a feature now. The last one is an interesting one too. It's somewhat similar to the round trip generation function.
Cheers,
Guido
