Routing error message
Quote from Rods on 18.11.2021, 06:16I have selected avoiding motorways and unpaved routes as default.
When using the Power Planner to plan routes, I regularly encounter the following error message when requesting a ‘curvy’ route:
’The route was calculated but avoiding Unpaved Roads could not be honered’
I would be grateful for your help please Guido. (Please also note the spelling of ‘honoured’)

Quote from Guido on 18.11.2021, 06:32Kurviger (the provider that calculates the Curvy routes and passes them to Scenic) uses a different map provider with different map data compared to Scenic.
If you select ‘avoid unpaved’ to generate a curvy route, Kurviger will avoid all the roads it knows are unpaved, and then send key coordinates back to Scenic (the via points).
Scenic then calculates the route between those via points. It’s possible that Scenic thinks one of the roads between two via points is unpaved, while Kurviger thinks it’s not. If there is no other (paved) road between those points, Scenic will give this warning. It’s just a warning that Scenic thinks there will be an off-road stretch in the route, but there is no other option.
It’s hard to tell who’s right. Mostly though, the Kurviger maps are more up to date when it comes to roads being paved or unpaved. Meaning, it’s probably safe to ignore this warning in this case.
If you’d like to double check, the best way to do this is to turn on the satelite map and follow the route line, so you can verify there is no unpaved stretch. (Even though satelite imagery can also be outdated)
‘honored’ vs ‘honoured’: that’s american spelling vs British spelling: https://writingexplained.org/honor-vs-honour-difference

So am I best taking the ‘avoid unpaved roads’ off if tending to use curvy routes?
(It was ‘honered’ as opposed to‘honored’)

Quote from Guido on 18.11.2021, 07:15If you’d like to avoid unpaved it’s best to leave that avoidance to ON… and then just ignore the warning you get.
If you switch it off, Kurviger will not try to avoid off-road roads, so chances of having an off-road stretch in there will become higher…. And if I understand correct, that’s not what you want.
( will check/correct that spelling mistake)
