Route deviation
Quote from Bangkok on 21.09.2023, 04:38Hi Guido,
When I am riding a route sometimes the app suddenly does not follow my route anymore and suggest a different route. Even when I did not make a mistake. And also this sometimes happens far ahead of my current ride. How can I change this that it does not happen.
The examples below:
First picture: It wants to send my right while the original route is straight.
Second picture: The route is left but the apps shows me to go straight
Third picture: Here the route could be picked up easily but instead it deviates me again
Last picture: You can see that the app does not follow the route at point 28.Instellingen detour behavior:
Recalculate with detour - on
Self correction - on
Skip via automatic - on distance set to 6km

Reason why this could happen (at least first 3 scenarios): If auto-correct is on with a high skip radius, it’s possible that via points are skipped when you detour. This can significantly change your route. Even if you don’t actually deviate, Scenic might sometimes think that you deviated due to inaccuracies in GPS signals. More detailed explanation here: https://scenic.app/help/detour-behaviour-when-deviating-from-your-route/
The last scenario (possible alsonfirst 3 scenarios) could be caused by difference in moment of creating/saving the route, and moment of actually navigating it. The thin purple line is the route as it was originally saved. The thick line is the route as it is calculated when you start navigation. If there is a long time between these two moments, then the map might be updated meanwhile, or even “worse”, the routing algorithm might have been changed between these two moments. This is not very common but if the moments of creation and riding are very far apart (think weeks or even months or years) this is definitely possible.
Lastly, depending on when the route was created, this could be an old bug where the routing mode was not saved correctly with the route. E.g. you selected a short routing mode when route was created, but when navigating the route is calculated with 'fast’ routing mode, resulting inna different route.
Hope this helps/explains. If not, please let me know if you have other questions. Happy to help.
Best regards and ride safe,
Guido

Thanks for the reply. I have set the skip radius to 6km, would that be too much then? What would your recommendation be to avoid this behaviour?
Regarding the last picture: This route was created and used within one day so the first reason would almost not be possible. The second reason could be the issue because sometimes I look at the difference between 'fast curvy route' and 'extra curvy'. So I sometimes switch between those. I won't do that anymore so this issue should be solved.
Thanks for your help.
Regards Ed (forgot this the fist time).

Personally I always have ‘auto-skip via points’ completely off. If I want to skip a via point I do that through the ‘skip via/stop’ button in the navigation menu. That way I know for sure that vias/stops wont be deleted unless I do it myself. It does take some manual action at times though, so I guess it’s always a trade-off.
Cheers,
Guido

I set the skip-function to 2.5 km.
Two reasons:
In my area we have a lot of roadworks and deviations at the moment. Its killing me to be rerouted back for more than this 2.5 km. So i just procced and after 3 minutes i“ll be sent to the next via.
Second. While its raining i carry my cellphone in my bag. Just listen to the announcements. Not able to skip the point on the display. So Scenic sents me to my target anyway. No worries.
Therefore i love Scenic. You can configure it for the usage that you need.
Just try it.
