Road routing errors - how to report?
Quote from sotomoto on 31.07.2022, 11:42I've been using Scenic for a while now and it's by far the best motorcycle nav app among the many I've used.
A little while ago, a map update removed the ability to route on some of my favorite local adventure roads - these are public roads, but unpaved. Following Guido's advice, I registered at HERE and it appears their maps show these roads normally.
The two roads are:
- Summit Rd - If you go to 1075 Summit Rd, Watsonville, CA 95076, you'll see that Scenic shows Summit Rd. north of that address as tiny dots, and won't route on it, however I'm very certain it's a regular (unpaved) road, as I have ridden it a number of times.
- Buzzard Lagoon Rd, Watsonville, CA 95076 - This shows up in Scenic as a regular road, however it refuses to route its entire length, although there is no visible discontinuity or anything that would indicate why - again this is a public (dirt) road, and in fact I rode it yesterday.
How/where do I go about reporting this so it can be fixed? It's pretty annoying since I ride these roads fairly frequently, and especially with the first one, Scenic makes a real hash out of the route, as there aren't really any nearby alternates (at least with Buzzard Lagoon I can just route on nearby Eureka Canyon, which is about the same distance/etc).
Thanks!
Adam

The first one is marked for local traffic and emergency vehicles only:
A stretch of the buzzard lagoon road, although it allows all types of vehicles, it is marked for local traffic only as well:
The best way to report these errors (if they are in fact errors), is through HERE's map creator website. That's the second way mentions here: https://scenic.app/help/roads-not-on-the-map-errors-in-the-map-data/

Quote from sotomoto on 31.07.2022, 13:08Thanks Guido - I didn't know what to expand to check the road attributes. So I just remove the vehicular traffic only attribute (for all of the relevant segments - there are a number of them) and save? Does this just magically show up in the next Scenic map update then, or does HERE do some review/approval of changes?
Rgds,
Adam

Quote from Guido on 31.07.2022, 14:01To be honest I’m not really sure. I reported some errors in my own neighborhood and it took about 4 months to be reflected. HERE releases map updates every 2/3 months so looks like it takes 2 cycles.

Quote from Guido on 31.07.2022, 14:10From what I’ve seen the ‘local traffic only’ overrules all of them. In the sense that you won’t be routed over these roads, no matter what the other settings are. So that should be unchecked for sure. And then I would check the ones for which the road is allowed.

Quote from DougNZ on 01.07.2023, 22:18Hi Guido, I'm running into this issue every now and then in New Zealand. I reported a missing road between two weighpoints long ago and it's still an issue. I've just reported another. We are also occasionally doing short stints off road.
I was wondering if it could be practical to "enforce a direct line of navigation between two weighpoints" as an option? This way, we could effectively overright map errors where we know the road exists and also force a route over a non road, eg a beach that has a road entry at one end and a road exit at the other but isn't marked as a road as such.
At the moment the only way we can do this is to switch over to google maps at a particular point and get it to provide a "walking" route between the two weigh points.

This feature is sometimes also referred to as “straight line”, “bee-line”, “as the crow flies”, or “uncoupled” mode.
It’s currently not possible but is on the list. Here is a forum post with more explanation: https://scenic.app/forum/topic/plot-off-road-course/#postid-5103Best regards,
Guido
