Question regarding update to Scenic 3.5 and removal of credit points
Quote from CHiLi on 05.02.2024, 05:59Hi Guido!
First, I'd like to share a big thank you for this app and all the work you put into it. I am using Scenic exclusively and extensively on my bike tours since several years now.
In regard to the latest update and the removal of credit points there are some questions I have. In the past I bought credit points additionally to my Premium lifetime for a significant amount of money (around 50 Euros, iirc on a black friday deal or some special offer within the app, not too sure anymore). I did intentionally NOT spent these points as I held them in reserve as to be flexible for buying offline maps for future holiday trips. Now I have to notice that all premium users get all offline maps for free - so, in fact, I lost real money without getting any use out of it. Will there be some kind of compensation?
Best
Chris

Quote from PeteRT on 05.02.2024, 08:07I guess the trade off is that now you have all the maps you want. As a lifetime Premium user the saving over annual subscription is significant. The new app 3.5 has no lifetime premium available, so you are better off than new users. I had points too which are no more but personally I don't mind as I got the new update 'free' as a lifetime user. I think we are on a very good deal.

Quote from Melbara on 05.02.2024, 08:44My thoughts as well! You get one of the best apps to navigate, for free as opposed to having to pay every year, so I think the 50 Euros you think you have lost are actually a very good deal and have been well spent.

Quote from CHiLi on 05.02.2024, 10:10You both seem to completely forget that the "Premium lifetime" was carrying a price tag as well and did not come at no cost. I bought the credit points solely under the assumption that offline maps will be required to pay for. Essentially, I bought a virtual currency that has been devalued without refund.
Regarding the lost "Premium lifetime": there is an announcement within v3.5 that it might return. In case it does, my assumed "advantage" over new customers diminishes further, essentially making it disappear.

I understand your point of view. From a different perspective, Premium Forever now includes ALL offline maps. That's more than your remaining 41 credits would have covered.
As you might have read, the yearly Premium Subscription will double in price, and Premium Forever is no longer available. Indeed we might do a sale on Premium Forever in the fall/winter, but this is still very uncertain. If we do, the price will be in line with the doubled yearly subscription price. In other words, it will be double what you paid (minus a discount percentage). That's more than what you paid for Premium Forever and credits combined.
I did not make this decision lightly. I thought about this long and hard and definitely did not want any existing users to get less than what they already paid for.
The other option was to keep the current credit system.
I hope this explains a bit better.
Best regards,
Guido
