just upgraded my Scenic App to 3.5, and gave it a brief try today. I have a Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin, which has a TFT display which is compatible with Apple CarPlay (ACP). I prefer Scenic, because it runs fine on my Honda display, while I can leave my iPhone in my jacket.
I encountered a nasty problem right in the beginning. When you open Scenic on the ACP screen, it offers you either to choose from routes stored on your device or you can put in a destination. I wanted to go from Augsburg to Affing, which is a small town nearby. It is about a 20 minute ride.
However, Scenic 3.5 was not able to find "Affing". This seems strange, because the app even remembered that I had searched for Affing before (actually, I went to Affing half a year ago, when I had installed Scenic the first time). Instead, the app suggested some addresses of businesses somewhere in Augsburg which did not have any relationship to Affing. So I took out my iPhone and opened the app on the phone. I searched for Affing, and it was found immediately (it isn't that small, actually). After having confirmed the search result on the phone, I could put away the phone and follow the route on the ACP display.
In brief: It seems to be impossible to search for a destination in the ACP interface. The app allows you to type in your destination on the ACP screen, but it does not find it.
(I am pretty sure that this problem has not been there in the earlier version. And I'd like to share another interesting observation: I have exactly the same problem when using Calimoto. The app finds any destination when you use the phone screen for searching, but it does not find any destination when you use ACP for it.)
Apart from that, the new app looks great. I hope that you find a solution for my problem.
