Premature ride finish right at start
Quote from iafan on 30.08.2024, 19:48All of my routes start and end in the same place (my house). For the last 5-6 months I started seeing a quite annoying behavior: right after I exit my garage and start the route navigation, Scenic says that I reached the finish point and offers to save the ride. So I have to park nearby, find the same route in the list, start navigating, then skip the start point. This just causes anxiety every time I’m about to use Scenic, and I want my weekend rides to be nothing but fun!
As a workaround, I started editing my routes to move the start point somewhere away from my house, essentially as a first via. This solves the issue, but still feels not right. So I finally decided to report this bug.
My suggestions would be the following:
- Ignore all vias and finish markers that are not in order. Essentially, navigate me to via 1, then to via 2, and so on, and then to the finish point. If I get close to via N but I didn’t drive by via N-1, ignore this. If I get close to the finish marker but I didn’t drive by via N, ignore this. Hope I was able to explain the logic.
- Add route sorting by last use date. In this case, if anything goes wrong, it would be easier to restart the route, and my favorite routes would typically stay on top.
In any case, thank you Guido for making such a great app overall!

You are not the first one to mention this. I am working on a big update for October, where this will be addressed.
Thank you and best regards,

One related thing I’d like to mention: when you are navigating to the start marker, the voice prompts: “in 100 ft you will reach your destination”, which sounds strange, because it is the same message as when I’m reaching the end of my route. I would suggest using a different wording like “in 100 ft you will reach your route start”, which would give a better indication that Scenic is actually navigating me to a route start, not to the route end.

Quote from iafan on 30.09.2024, 21:15I just installed Scenic 4 and have exactly the same problem. I tried this with a random the route that ends at my house where I am now, and the start of the route is a couple of blocks away. As I start the navigation (just sitting at home, not moving), it randomly says “Route end is on the left” and acts as if the entire trip is done.
I think there’s something in how the routing is done, not in the map provider. I would just expect it to guide me to the start point, and then to the first via, and so on, completely ignoring any other vias or finish markers.
