Power Planner
Quote from BiKenG on 12.08.2022, 13:37Having set up a route in the Planner, I often want to then simply 'ride', i.e. start navigating. However I have failed to find any way to do that, without having to 'Save' the route first which is exasperating when I just want to get moving and have NO need whatsoever to have to 'Save' the route.
Case in point, today I was standing in the (extremely) hot sun, having to wait an age to 'import' a route I had previously created in Google Maps. Poor cellular signal meant this took a long time and even having downloaded it, there were repeated delays where Scenic would be trying to do something (again, glacially slowly) while I roasted in the sun, unable to do anything until Scenic finished what it was doing.
Once the route had been downloaded and I was in Power Planner, I then just want to get going. This was not a place I will EVER come to again and the last thing I needed was to have to faff about entering a filename and saving, just so I can delete it once home.
Perhaps I'm missing something and there is indeed a button to avoid all that and let one get navigating without saving first? If so, pray tell.
Once I was finally underway, I then had to pull over twice, just in order to get the display with me in the centre and heading upwards. I rode for several miles with it scrolling sideways before stopping and eventually I managed to get it correct - fortunately before I threw the entire iPhone under the nearest juggernaut. Which would have been entirely stupid of course, but it was a maddening experience, being constantly thwarted by Scenic from simply using it for what using Co-Pilot is quite frankly, simplicity itself.
I should have taken the car and sat in air-conditioned coolness, but foolishly thought a nice ride on a beautiful day would be a good way to further experiment with Scenic. It was not good however - although somewhat surprisingly I did make it back home with iPhone intact.🙂
I want to persevere with Scenic however, so would appreciate it if anyone can explain how to import a route and use it, without having to save it first.

Quote from Guido on 12.08.2022, 13:52ok. So. A couple of things going on here. When you import a route internet connection is required as this needs the scenic server. However, calculating routes should be fast (if you have the offline maps installed for the region).
When importing it’s recommended to check the calculated route. Sometimes corrections are necessary to get it the same as the route was designed in the source application. Typically users import routes beforehand, and that’s where saving comes in. By default it takes the name from the import. Only if you want to change that you need to enter a name.
Then the current position not centering… this was a bug in a previous version. Make sure you have the latest version of Scenic v3.12. You can see version number at bottom of settings.
You can create a quick route (with no or just a few stops), without saving, in the main screen by tapping on the map or searching for locations. Importing however always goes through power planner and this needs saving, and as mentioned below, is typically done beforehand.
You had the route saved in Google Maps, right? Why not create the route and save it in Scenic? Will save you the whole import step while on the road. Or am I misunderstanding the scenario?
