POI groups and how to use them
Quote from Grasshopper on 08.02.2024, 14:11As I am a rookie and layman (somewhat computer illiterate), can anyone on the forum help me with creating POI's and then getting them into Scenic.
My immediate example of this is, I am looking on Google Maps at northern Spain. I have searched for Miradors and now the map shows a number of them all around the area. So how can I get these Miradors into Scenic so that they can be layered onto the map there for future use?
Can someone help me with a "for dummies" instruction list to do this?
Thanks in advance for any help.

The basic steps are:
- Get the "miradores" into a file that Scenic supports. This can be either GPX or KML.
- Import that file into Scenic
- Activate the layer so that the markers show on the map
Now, as far as I know, Google Maps does not offer any way to export to GPX or KML files. But... Google My Maps does: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/
Next step is a bit of manual work. You have to search for your Miradores > then select them one by one and "add to map"
Once you have all of them in the "untitled layer", click the three dots and choose "export data" > KML > download.
Now go to the Scenic WebApp: https://scenicapp.space/webapp.php, ligin and choose drag-drop GPS files. And drag the file you just downloaded in the box.
Now go to Scenic on your iPhone > open the side menu > import
Then follow the steps here: https://scenic.app/forum/topic/poi-group-from-gpx-file/#postid-4552
Last step, is to make this layer visible on the map. To do that, on the main/map screen, tap the 3rd button from the top left, scroll down, and put a checkmark next to the POI Group you just imported.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Perhaps someone else from the community has other ideas / better ideas to do this.
Best regards,
Guido

you can do this with Google Earth Pro, too.
- Search for e.g. "Mirador around Madrid", you will get a list with the found places
- You can choose on of them and save it under "My Places" or
- Click left under the list on the little folder symbol with a plus sign, the list of search results will be copied to "My places"
- Right click the "mirador around madrid" folder and choose "Save As", you can save it as KML or KMZ file
- The list will be saved and you can import this to S c e n i c
