Planning with v4.03 and 4.04
Quote from TigerOnTour on 27.10.2024, 11:22I’ve discovered a few mapping issues while creating a route with both v.4.03 and 4.04 - related to zooming ad the display of map elements. Normally I would expect map elements to show up when zooming in and remaining when zooming in further.
I’m navigation usually from pass point to pass point when riding in the mountains, so I’m looking for Passpoints on the map - fortunately they show up nicely. In my example I’m looking for 3 points in the Vosges mountains in eastern France - the Col du Louchpach, the Col du Bonhomme and the Col du Calvaire. When zooming in the don’t appear on the same zoom level but one after another in the order listed above - but when I zoom in further, the Col du Calvaire disappears for many zoom levels until it reappears on a very detailed level, disappears again and is visible again on the final level. For the other two passpoints - they also disappear and reappear on some zoom levels when zoming in. (This is just an example, I’ve seen this happening with other types of map elements too.)
Another issue is adding such a point to a route. It’s quite difficult to pick such a point by just long holding it - even if it’s the only visible point there on a certain zoom level. It usually takes a number of attempts before you “pick” the right item. Would be nice if you could just point on it - and in case there are multiple visible map items it would display a list of them to select the right one.
In general, I found 4.03 quite usable for planning and navigation this weekend - a big step forward from v.4.02 - 4.04 was released after the start of my trip, so I have to test it next time.

Quote from Guido on 27.10.2024, 13:10@tigerontour I'll take a look at this. There are two things that influence this. First of all it's a setting at what zoom level elements appear and disappear. Secondly, though, if two elements are close to one-another and are about to overlap, there is a priority setting. I'll take a look at this once I start working on the map customizer.
Select these built in map elements is not yet possible as such. What happens now is that Scenic gets the coordinate of where you are long-tapping and tries to find the address closest to that coordinate. In the future it will be possible to directly selecting these built in map elements.
