Plan Route on Windows PC

Is there a way to plan routes on my PC? Web App only seems to allow me to import routes from other apps.

Google Maps, MRA (My Route App) are two that come to mind which are web based and allow you to export routes or GPX files for importing into Scenic.

With Google you plan the route then in the URL bar copy and then paste it into Web App. Sometimes it'll say that it's not a proper URL which means that you didn't copy the correct one. Don't use the "copy link" option in the side bar. It doesn't work with Web App for some reason.

Ja, mit Kurviger.

Personally, I plan with Google Maps and then import the URL through the WebApp. Here's a short video on that: https://scenic.app/help/import-from-google-maps/?seq_no=2

If you're enjoying Scenic and are happy with the support, please leave a nice rating in the App Store. It would mean a lot to me ❤️

Thanks, just had to wrap my head around planning in a different place on my PC. Did some testing with the app during my commute to work. So far it's a winner.

I do all of my planning, from Day-rides to 3-month 28-country trips, with Furkot.com. Within Scenic, I can access any of my Furkot Trip Plans with one click. In addition, since Furkot & Scenic use OSM maps there are no worries as to whether or not my routing and waypoints are going to be the same.

I'm new to Scenic and trying to understand why people are using Google Maps to create routes and then importing them into Scenic. What is the point of Scenic? Why not just use Google Maps for navigation?

It depends what you are looking for. If you just want basic navigation, then Google Maps is probably fine for you. Some people want more/other things  like recording your rides, offline maps, import, export, more flexibility on detour behaviour and editing routes during navigation, etc.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll definitely look into Furkot. For now I'm using Harley Ride Planner since I already have a bunch of routes there. I'm doing a new route that I created in Harley Ride Planner with about 15 waypoints imported into Scenic this Sunday. I'll post up my results. So far it looks spot on in Scenic.

From one of Guido's customer's perspective I use Scenic because you can plan routes from any external source and import them into Scenic and save them.

Google Maps planning is great when you use it on a desktop. For example I have a 32" widescreen monitor so showing the maps in full screen helps enormously with planning a ride. But I usually only use it if Scenic's maps are lacking info or detail for where I'm going which isn't all the time but it does happen. It comes down to where and when the map data is sourced, I guess.

Scenic also allows you to record a ride, save it, do whatever you want with it, share it, etc. It has off-line maps for entire countries, not just some small area which Google Maps only allows.

There are also recorded statistics of the ride if that's your bag.

But, at the end of the day, when it comes down to basic navigation then the free navs such as Waze, Google Maps or whatever probably do the job just as well.

But there is one major limitation with Google Maps and it relates to Carplay which I use all the time (Carplay, that is). If you stop somewhere and go and get a coffee or whatever, then with Google Maps the nav stops and you have to restart it once the phone's reconnected to the Carplay unit. With Scenic, it auto-pauses and resumes when you leave your  stop.

Thanks, Marts. The more I explore the Scenic app, the more I understand its features and benefits. I am planning on using Carplay, so your tip is greatly appreciated. What would be great is if you could use the Route Planner on PC. I really like the option to create a curvy route. As I see it, at the moment, I'll have to create a route on Google, export it to the Scenic App, and then play around with the curvy option.

Yep, understand. As Scenic is only for the Apple platform (dunno if Android is covered or not), I use it on my Mac Mini and a 32" widescreen monitor. Makes it super easy to plan and visualise the entire route. With Google Maps, same deal except that when you drag the route to line up with a desired road, for example, it's great to have a large screen. I've done it on the iPhone and iPad and its difficult at times.
