Petrol Stations
Quote from Ahmed on 30.12.2023, 14:01Hello,
I am new to Scenic, and I'm not certain if this feature exists or if I was doing something incorrectly. Essentially, I'm curious to know if it's possible to view all the petrol stations along a route. I prefer to include petrol stations in my route planning, but I've noticed that the app only displays the nearby stations
Good luck and many thanks in advance

Quote from PatB on 10.06.2024, 14:40If possible, I would like to be able to tell Scenic to deviate from my current route to find a petrol station or perhaps other POIs as well.
Twice I've been riding on back roads and gone down to 0 miles range before finding a station despite looking out for them long before reaching the reserve. I must have passed close to petrol stations on both occasions without realising.
Yesterday, I planned a route to find a location for a local bike club challenge. I then planned a "fast curvy" route home to avoid the main roads allowing Scenic to define all the way-points. In theory, there should have been enough range to get home but I thought I'd fill up at the first station I passed to be on the safe side. Two-thirds of the way back and my range dropping below 40 miles, I decided to break away from my route to a town where I knew there was a petrol station. When my range dropped to only 10 miles, I stopped, stopped my route to search for a petrol station. This got me to a petrol station but I had to end my current route and create another one back home. Ironically, if I had stuck with the original route, I would have passed a petrol station in the next five to ten miles.
If where we had buttons for things like "Road Block" and audio features we could also have a "Petrol Pump" button that would tell Scenic to break away from the planned route when passing close to a petrol station that would be brilliant.
What do you think, is this even feasible?

Quote from Guido on 11.06.2024, 07:30You can already make all petrol station visible on the map. Additionally you can search for petrol stations along the route. Here is a forum thread on that including screenshots: https://scenic.app/forum/topic/find-pois-on-my-route/
Are you suggesting to add a 3rd option, being that Scenic automatically breaks away from the route if you get close to a petrol station? If so, that would need some refinement I believe. Imagine you are in a downtown area with gas stations every mile. You wouldn't want to break away every mile. Scenic would somehow need to know how much range you have left in the tank.... at the least that would mean that Scenic would have to know full-tank range, and how many miles riddens since last full fill-up. Not impossible, but not a quick change either.

Quote from PatB on 11.06.2024, 09:33I already have petrol stations made visible in the layers, but if they’re outside the visible route it doesn’t help.
I was only thinking of being diverted off route once to refuel and then being directed back along your intended route. Otherwise, you really need to plan in every fuel stop. I’m not sure whether it’s possible to edit a route when you choose a destination without creating a route beforehand.

Quote from Guido on 11.06.2024, 10:00You can edit while riding. To add a gas station... tap the overview button, then the "search" buttton, then the fuel button. Then you can select a fuel station to add to your route.

I've only used the "Road Blocked" a few times (with mixed results) from that menu screen as I'm afraid of messing up my route. I'll try "Overview" next time I go on a ride to familiarise myself with how it works 🙂

Hi Guido,
thanks for the hint, and that will help already a lot.
On my previous Navigation system, there was an option that indicated all the time the distance to the 2 next gas stations on the current route. This was very useful - I do not plan for those stops, I usually take the chance to refuel once I see the gas station. Just as an idea for you...
But I can live as well with the proposed solution 😉

Steppo
