Pause navigation in CarPlay

So found a bit of an issue today, there is no pause button in CarPlay.  Yes it auto pauses after standing still for 2min, but I needed to pause the route so I could deviate and run a quick errand, and then come back to the point and resume.

So I then switched the bike off, so CarPlay would end, and on the scenic app on the phone, selected Pause navigation.  Problem was soon as I started the bike, CarPlay kicks in and starts navigating again, and with scenic app in CarPlay mode, there was nothing I could do.

Is Pause/Resume navigation coming in CarPlay? Or is there an alternative solution to this?

There is no alternative solution at the moment. But, the app should auto-resume anyway, regardless if you auto-paused. That is, unless you turned auto-resume off?

To be honest, I think this is a pretty rare scenario. Most people will want to record the entire ride, including detours. Why not record the detour? It was part of your ride that day after all?

If you're enjoying Scenic and are happy with the support, please leave a nice rating in the App Store. It would mean a lot to me ❤️

Hi Guido,

sometimes no one should see, in a recorded track, that you took a deviation to your sweetheart..  Not even your wife 😜.

Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Regards, Mex

My experience with Carplay is still limited. When I start Carplay, the screen on the iPhone goes black with the text carplay. Sometimes, after an interruption, Scenic can be accessed on both screens.
Both screens have their own advantages and limitations. Is it possible to provide Scenic with a dual-screen mode? That would be great.
Greetings, Geert-Henk

Duel screen, as in, the map on both screens, is technically possible, but would ask a lot of performance from the phone (CarPlay is, in essence, an external display for the Phone).

It is possible to add a lot more features and functions on the iPhone screen while the map is showing on CarPlay. I'm working on a redesign for later this year, where I'm planning to take on this aspect as well.

That would be great, even if it is for a few minutes to adjust the route settings. The possibilities on careplay are too limited, e.g. the routing options when you change the destination or highway/secondary roads.

Hopefully that will be user configurable? I like having the phone safely in the tank bag and using the Chigee. Combined with the WunderLINQ it’s the perfect setup.

I’d hate to have the phone actually doing stuff in the tank bag and wasting battery. I like the fact that it’s in there doing nothing, except with the screen on to capture WunderLINQ presses, as I can go all day with 8+ hours of riding and still have 30-40 percent of battery left at the end of the day without ever having to charge.

I'll keep that in mind. My idea is to have a few often-used buttons on the phone screen (like taking a picture, indicating a road block, etc.), so not additional navigation information.
Hard to keep everyone happy 🙂.

Absolutely. You’ll never please everyone.

One of the areas where Scenic is better than MRA though is that they rely on the phone as well as CarPlay, whereas Scenic doesn’t.

There’s no way my phone will ever be mounted on the bars.

Some people will appreciate the dual screen setup, but I think it’s important that it’s not a requirement in order to use  the core features of Scenic that we can use today, and that it’s only for “bonus features”.

Yes, configurability is key—you've done an excellent job of allowing us all to customize things to our liking. A highly opinionated product is good for certain consumers (e.g., Apple Maps) but not for us power users.  I do like Apple Maps or Google Maps when in Carplay, I can see the list of all upcoming turns to get an idea of what's coming up (while at a stop, for example).  I'm looking forward to the update to carplay for sure - we do need other options to really make use of Scenic (roadblock is a big one, picture is good, pause, etc).

Hi Guido,

New user here.   Just reading some of the forum posts.

I've been using Carplay and Google Maps.   On an Indian with Ride Command, Indian's built in multifunction display.   Works great until the internet connection drops.  Even with downloaded maps, that app can't load a new saved route.  It has other issues when offline, I don't think that feature is a development priority.

Google Maps in Carplay mode lists waypoint information, useful, but not my first choice.   Scrolling and zooming the map during navigation is cumbersome in Google Maps.   I can do it from the handlebar controls or the touchscreen, but it's a multi step process.  Either of those methods are distractions.   I haven't tried Scenic in Carplay mode yet, so it may already have more features available now.   After some time using the app, I may have some more specific suggestions.

Thank you for providing a forum for us!
