Overview, pan and zoom in Carplay
Quote from Aging Bull on 30.06.2025, 01:45As per my other thread - Scenic took me on a wonderful journey this weekend. One thing that caused me some distress was not being able to get a map overview in Cap play. Here is the scenario... I missed a turn... but I continue on... but I'm not sure if I'm being routed back to a missed waypoint or if Scenic is clever enough to skip it. The reason isn't important as I believe the behaviour is to reroute to the via unless it thinks you want to skip and in that case, it gives you a prompt that you may or may not have seen. Anyway, you want to stop and take a look at the route to see what's going on... but in Carplay, you can't get an overview or pan and zoom. When you take out your phone, then it says in Scenic that you are in carplay so you can't do it there either. The only solution is to turn your ignition off, kill the app on your phone and restart it, praying to God that everything is saved etc.
Is it planned to add this capability?

Quote from Guido on 30.06.2025, 03:42Thanks @Dae… also by tapping the 4 arrows button in the top toolbar you go into panning mode where you can zoom and move the map as you like.
Additionally, to make Scenic active on your iPhone you can temporarily switch to another app on CarPlay (like the music app). Then the navigation will be taken over on iPhone, until you switch back to Scenic again on CarPlay.

Quote from Helge on 02.07.2025, 02:14Yesterday I had a nice ride following an offroad track. Because parts of it were not available as viable roads, converting it to a route was not an option. So I just showed the track on the map and chose the mode “riding” instead of “navigation”. I had some issues with the zoom level of the map. When I chose “zoom level defined by speed” from my point of view the chosen zoom was often too high. Being in technical terrain I was moving slowly and I only could see few meters ahead so I had to check for turns very frequently.
My setting:
- iPhone running the App while screen turned of
- Chigee 5” display showing the App using Apple CarPlay
- BMW WonderwheelI know that there are certain restrictions regarding Apple CarPlay, but would it be possible to somehow directly link the Wonderwheel to the zoom level? Currently I barely use the Wonderwheel as an input for Scenic, because it is way faster just pushing the few buttons by hand.
At the end zooming in and out is the only thing I do while riding. For the rest, like modifying the route, I always stop and in most cases I directly use my iPhone and not the clumsy CarPlay screen.
Greetings
Helge

Quote from Dae on 02.07.2025, 03:04I mainly use the wheel for zooming too. I leave Scenic set to manual zoom, and use the wheel to move the “cursor” to the + or - zoom button. The Chigee, providing you don’t move the cursor elsewhere, remembers this position so the next time you touch the wheel it’s already located over a zoom button. It makes it really easy to quickly zoom in and out.

For those that have a BMW Wonderwheel or some other device, it would actually be cool to have speed or turn based zoom turned on, but still be able to manually zoom in or out if needed, then after let’s say 5 or so seconds, when not manually zooming, it should go back to the whatever is set, speed or turn based….
I know I had this option once in some app or satnav, and I’m missing it somewhat, so Guido, if you have some time to spare some day, then this would be a great enhancement 😉👌

Quote from TGC on 02.09.2025, 18:08Something that frustrates me a little is turn based zoom on CarPlay. It always seems to be zoomed in a bit too much and the next turn is always just off the top of the screen. I’m wondering is this is coded to a certain screen resolution and that my Goldwing screen is perhaps lower res than others. Would it be possible to add something to fine tuning to impact turn based zoom? Maybe a percentage to affect the overall zoom level. In my case, turn/waypoint is always just off screen, and if zoom level was reduced to 90% (higher zoom being less physical land shown) then I’d be able to have the next turn in view.
If this belongs in another forum section, please do move it.

Quote from Guido on 03.09.2025, 09:00Hi @tgc. It could indeed be the resolution of your CarPlay display. I can make some adjustments for this. Are you using 2D or 3D mode?

Quote from TGC on 03.09.2025, 09:06Hi @guidomm
I exclusively use 2D view.
Just to be clear, the display controls/speed/etc all appear onscreen correctly. Screen edge is not cropped in any way. I’m just speculating the map zoom factor is perhaps calculated using a screen_width/screen_height and could be tweaked.
Thanks

Hi Guido,
could you investigate in the zoom issue? Would be nice to have automatically zoom in to the next crossing, when set to manual zoom, like it’s in the most of the OEM car systems.
Thanks and regards

Quote from TGC on 12.02.2026, 20:07Hi @guidomm,
Before reporting, I had toyed with speed based zoom fine tuning, but still had the same issue where the upcoming turn would stay just off-screen. As I approach the turn from a distance, just as the turn appears at the top edge of the display, it zooms to the next level, resulting in the turn going off the screen again. This behavior happens every time the zoom level changes while approaching the turn, until the last (closest) zoom level when I make the turn. Thus I requested a turn based fine tuning option to complement the speed based fine tuning.
I can toy around with the speed based zoom values again if you believe they will impact this turn based behavior. Could you guide me in what values you’d suggest would see noticeable difference? Many thanks for a great app, TGC

Quote from Guenne on 13.02.2026, 01:26Hi Guido,
I think I already explained the zoom behavior of my car Navi in Audi.
You set to a fixed scale on the map (manual zoom) and every time you come to a crossing or roundabout, the Navi is Zooming to area.
This is just a simple switch called "Kreuzungszoom".
For me, this would be the best solution.

Günter

Quote from Guido on 13.02.2026, 17:15Thanks for the additional information and video Günter. This would be a 4th zoom mode in Scenic (next to already existing manual, speed based and turn based). I'll add it to the list, but can't give priority to this at the moment. Many things on the list.
More important now is to fix the problem where next turn drops of the map on some CarPlay systems. Hope you understand.
